What to Place on the Bedside Can Affect Health

Soft pillows, fresh green plants, and alarm clocks that wake you up, these small things that are almost necessary on every bedside table may be affecting your health.

1. Pillows

Some people like to put their pillows on the bedside table and stack them aside when they sleep, which can affect the cervical spine and sleep. Firstly, the ideal pillow height is 10-12 centimeters, and stacking pillows together with a cushion will increase its height. Secondly, pillows can hide some pathogenic microorganisms, mites, and dust, which can easily induce bronchial problems when inhaled through the mouth and nose. Lastly, a cluttered bedside table can cause psychological stress and take up space, making it difficult to sleep comfortably.

2. Alarm Clocks

Being frequently awakened by an alarm clock on the bedside table can lead to chronic stress, resulting in high blood pressure, decreased sleep quality, and depression. It is best to keep the alarm clock 1.8 meters away from the bed or place it even further.

3. Green Plants

Green plants can purify the air, increase oxygen levels, and soothe tense emotions. However, the respiration of green plants at night can consume oxygen and release carbon dioxide, easily causing a lack of oxygen environment and making it difficult to enter deep sleep, resulting in persistent fatigue. In addition, the soil may contain a large number of mold, placing it on the bedside table can cause respiratory system diseases, such as allergies or asthma. If you need to decorate with plants, you can place a small number of hydroponic plants like lucky bamboo or cacti.

4. Radios and other small appliances

All electrical appliances should be kept away from the bed. Some appliances, although small in size, should not be underestimated in terms of radiation, such as radios, mobile phone chargers, and small mosquito lamps. If necessary, it is best to place them in a corner far from the bed. The power strip should be at least 2 meters away from the bedside table, otherwise, the radiation will increase when it is powered on, affecting health.

5. Stuffed Toys

Dust, bacteria, and formaldehyde are easily hidden on the surface of stuffed toys. Some "unqualified" stuffed toys are filled with harmful chemical fibers, which can cause tearing, redness, and even respiratory and skin infections. Do not place any stuffed toys in the bedroom, especially not let children sleep with them.
