The Importance of Good Hygiene Habits for Towel Usage

January 22, 2024

Good living habits determine people's lifestyle and quality of life, and they also have an undeniable impact on people's health. It can be said that there is knowledge of living in every aspect of daily life. As the saying goes, "there is wisdom in every aspect of life". Although towels are small, there are also important points to pay attention to when using them.

 1. Replace every 30 days

From a health perspective, a person's towel should be replaced after about 30 days of use. The maximum usage time for a towel should not exceed 40 days, or the towel can be disinfected and softened by high-temperature boiling. However, traditional habits and consumption concepts have made many consumers overlook the role of towels in health and develop unscientific habits. For example: multiple people sharing one towel, using one towel for multiple purposes, not replacing towels until they are worn out, reusing towels, and neglecting towel hygiene. Towels that have been used for too long can harbor a large number of bacteria on their surface, which can harm human health. Especially in summer, if towels have bacteria or viruses, they can penetrate into the body through the senses and skin, causing damage to human health.

  2. Individual use, individual towels

When using towels, it is important to use them individually and have separate towels for different purposes. The main material of towels is pure cotton yarn, and cotton fiber has a tubular structure that can store moisture. The main chemical component of cotton fiber is cellulose, which contains a large number of hydrophilic genes and can absorb water well. This moisture-absorbing and water-storing property of cotton yarn makes towels comfortable to touch, strong in stain removal, and suitable for facial cleansing. However, it is also because of this property that cotton fibers are prone to "hiding dirt and grime", such as sweat, tears, and pathogenic microorganisms from the environment, providing a "breeding ground" for bacteria. Therefore, it is necessary to use towels separately according to their purpose to prevent bacterial growth.

  3. Wash, dry, and disinfect regularly

Towels should be regularly disinfected, washed, and dried or exposed to sunlight. Bacteria thrive in warm and humid environments. If towels are left in a warm and humid state for a long time, they become a paradise for bacteria to grow. In addition, oil, dust, impurities in water, and airborne bacteria deposited on the towel from the skin will not only fail to clean the skin when used, but will also contaminate the skin and clog pores, resulting in the opposite effect of cleaning. In this case, if towels are not washed, dried, or replaced frequently, a large number of bacteria will remain and multiply in the towel. Using such a towel to wipe the body can easily cause infection.

For women who wear makeup and children with fast metabolism, their skin produces more oil, making towels more susceptible to infection, and the harm is particularly significant. Therefore, they need to be washed more frequently. Furthermore, many inexpensive towels on the market are made from recycled, old, or fake materials and use inferior dyeing agents, which greatly reduces the breathability and water absorption of the towels. Some towels even contain carcinogenic substances such as aniline. Prolonged use of such towels can cause great harm to health, so it is important to be cautious when selecting towels.
