Bright Eyes: Understanding and Treating Dark Circles

January 21, 2024

The eyes are the window to the soul. Keeping your eyes bright not only increases your confidence but also makes people have a higher opinion of you. The condition of the skin around your eyes greatly determines the attractiveness of your eyes. If you have dark circles around your eyes, it not only affects your attractiveness but also indicates that your health is starting to deteriorate. To look younger, it is necessary to avoid having "panda eyes". There are many reasons for the appearance of dark circles, and below we will analyze them one by one. You may find your own reason.

1. Pigment deposition type dark circles

Pigment deposition is the most common and easily explainable cause of dark circles. The scattered distribution of pigments makes the skin around the eyes lack luster. As for why there is pigment deposition in the skin around the eyes, there are many reasons, such as sun exposure, inflammation, excessive makeup, and drug interference. The skin around the eyes is thinner, only about one-third of the thickness of the facial skin, so it is more vulnerable to external environmental stimuli and various skin problems occur more easily.

2. Thinning of the skin type dark circles

The skin around the eyelids is called "periorbital skin" with an average thickness of 0.5 millimeters, while most other parts of the body are around 2 millimeters. Blood vessels usually appear blue because the skin or subcutaneous tissue only allows blue or purple wavelengths of light to pass through. If the skin is lighter or darker in color, the blood vessels will not appear blue, but green or brown. When it comes to dark circles, it is actually the manifestation of blood vessels or blood passing through the skin.

As age increases, the skin loses elasticity and regenerative ability, becoming thinner and more fragile. Therefore, even with sufficient sleep, dark circles become more noticeable as one gets older.

3. Poor blood circulation type dark circles

Daily routines indeed affect the condition of the skin. It usually manifests as dark circles, sagging skin around the eyes, and eye bags. This is mostly due to poor blood circulation in the subcutaneous blood vessels around the eyes, leading to the accumulation of metabolic waste and water in the skin. Factors such as lack of sleep, eye fatigue, stress, and anemia can all cause congestion and swelling of the skin around the eyes.

4. Aging type dark circles

Aging can cause the eye sockets to sink, the muscles under the eyes to move downward, and the muscle tissue below the eye sockets to disappear. At the same time, with increasing age, the collagen content in the skin sharply decreases, the elastic fiber network of the skin disintegrates, and the skin cannot be supported, resulting in overall skin sagging and the formation of wrinkles. The skin below the eyes becomes concave visually, creating shadows and causing aging dark circles.

It is also essential to use skincare products containing whitening ingredients every day. You can use an eye cream specifically designed to combat dark circles, which contains stable ascorbic acid. You can also use a whitening and spot-removing essence specifically for the skin around the eyes. Whitening the skin around the eyes is not an overnight process, so be patient and gradually take care of it. Make sure to thoroughly remove makeup and cleanse your skin.
