Using Zhegucai to Treat Roundworm Disease: Efficacy, Mechanism, and Usage

January 19, 2024

Zhegucai is a seaweed with pharmacological effects, and its main function is to expel and kill parasites. It matures between spring and summer. Now let's take a closer look at some related knowledge about using zhegucai to treat roundworm disease.

I. Efficacy and Function of Zhegucai

It expels and kills parasites, strengthens the spleen, transforms phlegm, and resolves accumulations. It is used for children with bloating and abdominal pain caused by worm or food accumulation, as well as for indigestion.

Accompanying symptoms include: distended veins in the abdomen, emaciation with a swollen abdomen, poor appetite and weight loss, or weight loss despite being able to eat. The face appears yellowish and the person feels restless and irritable.

It can turn a thin and weak child into a robust one, ensuring the child's foundation is stable and they stay healthy throughout the year. When adults with parasitic worms take it, the worms in their bodies are expelled, allowing their bodies to recover and feel happy again.

II. Mechanism of Zhegucai in Expelling Parasites

Taking zhegucai once is not enough to achieve a complete cure. The judgment should be based on whether the expelled worms are dead or alive. When a small amount of the herb is used, it only stimulates the roundworms and makes them leave the body. However, when a larger amount is used for a longer period of time, it has a killing effect on the worms. It is believed that after being stimulated by the medication, the roundworms first become agitated and then gradually enter a paralytic state, leading to their death.

Children have a higher sensitivity in their intestines. When the roundworms are stimulated and become agitated, it increases the secretion of intestinal glands, promoting intestinal peristalsis and causing the roundworms to be expelled from the body in a short period of time. Therefore, in children under 12 years old, most of the expelled roundworms are alive, and the majority are expelled within 24 hours. In older individuals, due to enhanced inhibitory effects from the cerebral cortex, bowel movements become regular and the frequency of defecation decreases. As a result, the roundworms stay in the intestines for a longer period of time and have more opportunities to come into contact with the medication. Therefore, most of the expelled worms are dead after 3 days of taking the medication, and some of them may have damaged skin.

III. Processing of Zhegucai

Remove the soil and wash it clean. Cut it into pieces, remove impurities, and dry it for later use.

IV. Usage and Dosage

1. Take 500 grams of dried zhegucai and decoct it in water 3 times. Mix the filtrate and concentrate it to 500 milliliters. For children aged 2-5, take 5 milliliters each time; for children aged 6-10, take 10 milliliters each time; for children aged 11-15, take 15 milliliters each time; for individuals aged 16 and above, take 20 milliliters each time. Take it before going to bed and before breakfast the next day, or take it at 9 am and 4 pm.

2. Take fresh Meishetao, wash it clean, and stir-fry it with salt and oil to make a dish, or stir-fry it with eggs. It can also be dried and ground into powder, mixed with flour, and made into biscuits. Dosage: For adults, take 4 liang each time (fresh); for individuals aged 8-16, take 3 liang each time; for individuals aged 4-8, take 2 liang each time; for individuals aged 1-4, take 1 liang each time (all measurements are for fresh Meishetao). In some cases, taking 1 liang is effective, and it is not uncommon for adults to expel roundworms after taking 2 liang.

V. Side Effects

A small number of individuals may experience discomfort in the abdomen, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and dizziness. These side effects are generally mild.

Friendly reminder: Zhegucai should be used with caution by individuals with low blood pressure and pregnant women. When taking zhegucai to expel parasites, the dosage should be based on age and should not be excessive. Otherwise, it may cause mild dizziness, diarrhea, and other conditions.
