Papaya's Breast Enhancement Myth: Debunking the Claims

January 11, 2024

Papaya is known for its breast enhancement effects. Why is that? Does eating papaya really help to increase breast size? Not necessarily!

Can Papaya Really Enhance the Breasts?

Papaya has been believed to enhance breast size since ancient times, probably because papaya is plump with many seeds, and ancient people often believed in "like treats like". For example, eating pig brain is believed to enhance brain function, eating pig kidney is believed to enhance kidney function, and so on. Therefore, the idea of eating papaya to enhance breast size emerged.

The papaya mentioned in classical texts refers to the Xuan papaya, not the papaya we eat today.

The Xuan papaya is used as a medicinal herb, mainly for promoting blood circulation and relieving rheumatism, but it does not have the effect of breast enhancement.

The rumors about the breast enhancement effects of papaya can be explained by the following points according to experts: (1) The papain (or papaya enzyme) and vitamin A in papaya can promote the secretion of breast hormones, improve the circulation of blood and Qi in the breasts, and thus help with breast enhancement.

In fact, this is not true. Papain is a protease found in papaya, and it can break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. So far, no modern medical research has found that papain can promote breast growth.

(2) Secondly, breasts are composed of breast tissue, fat, and connective tissue. The size of the breasts is related to the amount of fat, and the shape of the breasts is determined by the pectoral muscles.

Papain can break down fat, which means that papaya actually has a slimming effect. When losing weight, the breasts may "shrink" first. Therefore, eating papaya regularly may actually make the breasts smaller.

(3) Furthermore, papaya contains carotenoids, which can be converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A has various functions such as improving vision, enhancing immunity, preventing night blindness, promoting growth and development, and maintaining normal skin functions.

If consumed in excess, the high level of carotenoids in the blood can cause the skin to turn yellow. Although there are no toxic or side effects, becoming a "yellow person" is not beautiful.

More importantly, vitamin A does not promote estrogen secretion, so it does not have a breast enhancement effect.

Although Papaya is Good, Some People Should Not Eat It

Papaya is not suitable for pregnant women and people with allergies.

How to Eat Papaya

1. With Milk

Mix green papaya and milk together for a delicious taste. When eating, remove 200 grams of green papaya, peel and seed it, then cut it into pieces. Put the papaya and 200 grams of fresh milk into a juicer and blend well.

After taking it out, pour it into a cup and add honey to mix well. Enjoy it directly.

This papaya with milk not only has an enticing taste, but also has beauty and skincare effects.

2. Salad

Green papaya can be eaten as a vegetable in addition to being a fruit. It tastes especially good when made into a salad.

To make a green papaya salad, prepare 200 grams of green papaya, 30 grams of carrots, 10 grams of peanuts, and an appropriate amount of cilantro and garlic. Cut the green papaya into thin strips after peeling, cut the carrots into thin strips as well, and then add salt for half an hour.

Remove the excess moisture, add chopped cilantro and garlic, and finally add your favorite seasoning and mix well.

3. Soup

Making soup with green papaya is also delicious, especially when a woman experiences insufficient milk production after giving birth. You can make a green papaya and crucian carp soup, which can not only provide the mother with rich protein and minerals, but also promote milk secretion.

It can relieve postpartum symptoms such as insufficient milk production and lack of milk, and is beneficial for postpartum recovery.
