Winter Skincare Tips: Moisturize, Keep Warm, and Avoid Poor-quality Cosmetics

January 8, 2024

    1. Moisturize and prevent dryness

In winter, there are four taboos for bathing: avoid excessive washing, avoid hot water, avoid excessive rubbing, and avoid soap with strong alkalinity. Otherwise, it is easy to destroy the skin's natural sebum, making the skin even drier and more prone to itching and cracking. It is recommended to bathe 1-2 times a week. After bathing, you can apply licorice oil, anti-itch cream, moisturizer, etc. to keep the skin moisturized and prevent dryness and peeling of the skin's surface.

    2. Keep warm and prevent cold

In winter, the exposed parts of the skin are prone to frostbite, such as hands, head, neck, etc. Feet are also prone to freezing. Therefore, it is important to keep these parts warm by wearing scarves, gloves, earmuffs, cotton shoes, etc. It is also helpful to rub hands and ears, pad the feet, and exercise. Avoid wearing damp clothes and shoes, and make sure to dry your hands and face before going out.

    3. Avoid using poor-quality cosmetics

Poor-quality cosmetics can have toxic effects on the skin due to impure texture or heavy lead content. Some cosmetics contain certain allergenic fragrances, which can cause allergies and even increase pigmentation. These can all harm the skin, especially in the case of low sebum production in winter.

    4. Wear soft clothing

In winter, wearing multiple layers of clothing can cause skin itchiness if not chosen carefully. This is because friction and static electricity can irritate the skin. Therefore, it is advisable to choose clothing made of materials such as pure cotton and silk, which are less likely to generate static electricity, for underwear, shirts, etc. It is also important to pay attention to clothing combinations, such as avoiding wearing polyester shirts with acrylic sweaters, and not wearing insulating polyester outerwear over synthetic fiber clothes to prevent static electricity.

    5. Exercise the skin

Strengthening the skin's exercise can enhance its adaptability to cold environments. This can be done through cold water baths, air baths, sun baths, massages, or washing the face with cold water and rubbing the body with cold water.

    6. Pay attention to food health

When the body lacks vitamin A, the skin becomes dry with scales, and even prickly papules may appear. Therefore, it is advisable to eat more foods rich in vitamin A in winter, such as pork liver, poultry eggs, fish liver oil, etc. It is also beneficial to eat sesame (sesame oil), soybeans, peanuts, etc., as they contain unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic acid. Lack of linoleic acid can cause dry skin and thickened scales. Additionally, certain foods can worsen certain skin conditions. For example, people with purulent skin diseases should eat less sweets and alcohol, while chili peppers, onions, garlic, alcohol, and strong tea can worsen symptoms of itchy neurogenic dermatosis. Kelp and noodles can cause iodine allergy in people with herpes dermatitis.

    Suggestions:

1. Do not wash your face with hot water frequently or rinse it with cold water afterwards (do not wash your face more than twice a day) to reduce water evaporation.

2. Do not use cleaning products with strong alkalinity, as this can destroy the film-forming properties of moisturizing ingredients.

3. Massage the facial skin regularly to promote blood circulation and increase sebum secretion.

4. Use a face mask 1-2 times a week with natural plant-based ingredients, soft film, hard film, or wax film, and avoid peel-off masks or hard films.

5. Use moisturizing skincare products and ensure that the skin is well hydrated before applying moisturizing lotion.

6. Drink plenty of water and eat fruits, vegetables, milk, pork skin, tremella, shiitake mushrooms, pumpkin, and other foods. Eat a moderate amount of fatty foods such as chicken, fish, pork liver, and butter to replenish moisture and nutrition in the body and promote sebum secretion.
