How to Eat Yangmei in Summer

【Benefits and Effects of Yangmei】

Yangmei has the effects of replenishing fluids, quenching thirst, invigorating the spleen, and stimulating the appetite. Eating it not only does no harm to the spleen and stomach, but also has detoxifying and warming effects. According to the Compendium of Materia Medica, "Yangmei can quench thirst, harmonize the five organs, cleanse the intestines and stomach, and dispel vexation and evil qi." Yangmei fruit, kernel, root, and peel can all be used as medicinal materials. They are mild and non-toxic. The fruit kernel can treat athlete's foot, and the root can stop bleeding and regulate qi. The bark soaked in liquor can treat bruises, swelling, and pain. Yangmei soaked in white wine, when consumed in the summer, can make you feel refreshed and relieve heat and greasiness. When experiencing diarrhea, drinking a concentrated soup made from Yangmei can effectively stop it, as it has astringent properties. The cellulose in the flesh of Yangmei can stimulate intestinal peristalsis, facilitate the elimination of harmful substances from the body, and the fruit acid it contains can prevent the conversion of sugar into fat in the body, aiding in detoxification, beauty, and weight loss. Yangmei has various medicinal functions, such as aiding digestion, eliminating dampness, relieving heat, nourishing fluids, stopping coughing, aiding digestion, preventing coldness, stopping diarrhea, promoting diuresis, and preventing and treating cholera. It is known as the "agate of fruits."

From a nutritional standpoint, Yangmei contains vitamins B and C, which have positive effects in preventing and fighting against cancer. The cyanogenic compounds and fatty oils in Yangmei kernels also have the ability to inhibit cancer cells. It is suitable for consumption by the general population, with a recommended intake of 5 fruits (about 40 grams) each time.

In addition to containing abundant vitamin B17, Yangmei also contains 32% crude protein, 21% crude fat, and cyanogenic substances, all of which have significant anti-cancer effects. Making them into Yangmei porridge can not only supplement the body with necessary nutrients but also inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

【Specific Method】

First, cook a small amount of glutinous rice and mung beans until soft. Then, put the flesh of the Yangmei and the kernels of the fruit into a pot and cook them together to make a clear and shiny Yangmei glutinous rice porridge. Patients should consume it three times a day, one bowl each time.

Ingredients: 200 grams of glutinous rice, 50 grams of mung beans, 90 grams of Yangmei.

Method: Soak the mung beans in water for 4 hours. Put the Yangmei, glutinous rice, and mung beans into the pot together, add water, bring to a boil over high heat, simmer until soft over low heat, and then add the Yangmei and stir well.

Medicinal use: Consume it in the morning and evening every day.

Note: It is effective for invigorating the spleen, aiding digestion, replenishing fluids, quenching thirst, and treating atrophic gastritis, hypochlorhydria, and diabetes.

【Soak in Saltwater for 5 Minutes Before Eating】

Eating Yangmei in summer not only helps to stop diarrhea but also prevents heatstroke. However, it is best to soak Yangmei in saltwater before eating to avoid causing diarrhea. This is because Yangmei has no skin and is artificially picked, so it may have dust and bacteria on its surface, which can cause discomfort in the stomach after consumption. Therefore, when eating Yangmei, it is best to soak it in saltwater for 5 to 10 minutes, then drain the water. This not only washes away some dirt but also enhances the flavor of the Yangmei. In addition, do not eat Yangmei that has grown moldy, turned black, or rotted, as this may cause diarrhea. Some people may experience toothache after eating a lot of Yangmei. In general, there is no need for treatment. Chewing some tea leaves after eating Yangmei can alleviate toothache.
