The trend of white sneakers is blowing all year round, whether on the street or in magazines, its presence can be seen everywhere. However, white shoes can turn into gray shoes after just a couple of days of wearing. And no matter how much you wash them, they never seem to get clean. Is it true that all you need is a lemon? Let's find out!
Trying various methods
We have tried regular cleaning agents like soap and laundry detergent, as well as other remedies like baking soda. Not only did they take 10 to 20 minutes to clean, but the cleaning effect was also not guaranteed. Moreover, these cleaning agents are highly acidic or alkaline, which can cause significant damage to the shoes.
Why do shoes turn yellow when they dry?
This is because enzymes in laundry detergent and soap react with iron ions in water during drying, producing yellow sulfides. When the water evaporates, the dirt that was originally dissolved in the water remains on the surface of the shoes, forming yellow spots.
Methods to clean white sneakers
1. Lemon method
Lemon juice contains a large amount of citric acid, which is a weak acid that can remove stains.
Squeeze the lemon juice into a bowl and add a little laundry detergent. Take a clean cloth, dip it into the lemon mixture, and rub it back and forth on the stains. The stains on the edges of the shoes will slowly dissolve.
When the stains have faded, use a damp cloth or towel to wipe off the stains, and the shoes will be as clean as new.
2. Vinegar method
The acid in vinegar has a certain corrosive and bleaching function, which can remove all alkaline and neutral dirt.
Soak the shoes in warm water first, then add a little vinegar to the water and soak for about 2 minutes.
Apply soap to the heavily stained areas, and use a soft brush to scrub the shoes.
To avoid pilling or scratching the shoe surface, it is recommended to use a soft brush. After cleaning, the shoes can be hand washed or machine washed.
Place the shoes in a cool and ventilated area to dry naturally, and avoid direct sunlight, which can cause the shoes to become unglued.
3. Beer method
Pour beer into a clean basin and soak the shoes for about 5 minutes, then rinse the shoes thoroughly with clean water until they are clean.
4. Toothpaste method
Dissolve a cleaning agent in water, soak the shoes in the solution, squeeze some pure white toothpaste onto a toothbrush, dip it in clean water, and brush the stained areas. The stains will be quickly removed.
