Toxin Accumulation: Understanding the Sources and Detoxification Methods

December 30, 2023

Every person's body contains toxins, but due to differences in metabolism and constitution, the time it takes for us to detoxify varies, which in turn affects our bodies differently. In order to eliminate toxins, we first need to understand how toxins are produced.

1. Sources of toxins in the body

Toxins in the body, also known as harmful substances, can be divided into internal toxins and external toxins.

External toxins: Refers to harmful substances in the environment, such as air pollution (vehicle exhaust, industrial emissions, dust, etc.), water pollution (industrial and domestic sewage, etc.), food contamination (pesticides, fertilizers, food processing, etc.), toxic side effects of chemical drugs, and pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, etc.). These harmful substances in the environment can enter our bodies through different pathways and harm our bodies.

Internal toxins: Refers to the toxic and harmful products generated by the accumulation of waste products during the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats in the body, such as lactic acid, ketone acids, uric acid, free radicals, etc. There are also excess fats, old and dead cells, and cancer cells in the body.

Toxic liver: If the liver accumulates too many toxins, it can cause headaches, pimples on the sides of the face, and menstrual pain. This is because the sides of the face and the lower abdomen are the areas associated with the liver meridian and its partner, the gallbladder meridian. If the detoxification function of the liver is not smooth, problems will occur in its own backyard. Additionally, the liver is an organ that regulates emotions in the body. If toxins in the liver cannot be eliminated in a timely manner, it can block the circulation of Qi and result in obvious negative emotions.

Toxic spleen: Can cause insomnia, palpitations, and when the "heart fire" becomes excessive, pimples can appear on the forehead. The presence of blood stasis in the heart is also a type of toxin. Mild cases can cause chest tightness, while severe cases can cause stabbing pain.

Toxic lungs: One of the manifestations of toxic lungs is constipation. According to traditional Chinese medicine, whether the skin is moisturized and fair depends on the good functioning of the lungs. When there are more toxins in the lungs, they can deposit on the skin with the action of the lungs, making the skin appear rusty and dull.

Toxic spleen: When the spleen is toxic, there can be facial spots, excessive vaginal discharge, and accumulation of fat in the body leading to obesity. At the same time, there may be noticeable bad breath, pimples or ulcers around the lips.

Toxic kidneys: If you have a light menstrual flow, short menstrual period, or dark-colored menstrual blood, it is possible that your kidneys have accumulated excessive toxins. The appearance of pimples on the jawline and easy fatigue are also manifestations of toxin accumulation in the kidneys.

2. How to detoxify?

Facial detoxification:

Healthy skin should be washed with alternating hot and cold water. Start by washing your face with warm water, then rinse with cold water for 30 seconds, wash with warm water again, and rinse with cold water. This alternating hot and cold facial cleansing method can promote blood circulation and is a secret to detoxification. When washing your face, try to choose a cleanser that suits your skin type and avoid long-term use of strong cleansing products that can damage the stratum corneum and affect the barrier function of the facial skin.

Exercise detoxification:

Exercise can accelerate metabolism and is considered the best way to detoxify. Regular aerobic exercise can speed up the body's metabolism, and toxins in the body will be excreted along with sweat while continuously drinking water. You can do yoga, jogging, or use existing towels or mats at home, as well as basketball, volleyball, and other simple exercises.

Massage detoxification:

Massaging the soles of the feet and the back can achieve a certain detoxification effect. The main principle is to stimulate the reflex zones of the endocrine system and the urinary system, allowing toxins in the body to dissolve and be excreted in the urine. Before massaging, you can drink a glass of water or lemon water, which is more conducive to the excretion of toxins.

Skin detoxification:

In fact, regular exercise helps maintain healthy skin. However, many young people, especially young women, have a long history of wearing makeup, and phenomena such as sleeping with makeup on and long-term use of makeup are very common. Therefore, there will be a large amount of cosmetic waste, such as preservatives, fluorescent agents, heavy metals, corticosteroids, etc., deposited in the skin. Mild cases can cause skin sensitivity and frequent allergies. Severe cases can cause cosmetic dermatitis or steroid face. The human skin can only metabolize water, carbon dioxide, and inorganic salts, and cannot autonomously metabolize these toxins, so as the history of wearing makeup increases, many girls who love makeup will find that their skin becomes more and more sensitive and cannot withstand the torment.
