Tips for a Refreshing and Nutritious Summer Diet

December 17, 2023

1. Eat more fruits

Fruits are sweet, refreshing, and can replenish water, vitamin C, dietary fiber, minerals, carbohydrates, and bioactive substances, which are beneficial to the body.

Making fruits and vegetables into fruit salads as snacks is a good way to supplement nutrition in summer. For those who don't like salad dressing, yogurt can be used as a substitute, which has a unique flavor.

2. Eat light and appetizing

Smashed cucumber, tomato salad, sweet and sour dishes, vinegar peanuts, radish skin salad, lettuce salad, garlic eggplant, etc. are all good side dishes. Light foods can stimulate the appetite, be refreshing, and have a cooling effect. For example, mung bean porridge, lotus leaf porridge, mint porridge, and noodle soup, etc.

3. Avoid excessive consumption of cold food

Although popsicles, ice cream, and cold drinks can cool down, quench thirst, and refresh the mind, excessive consumption can cause constriction of the gastric mucosal blood vessels, decreased gastric juice secretion, decreased appetite, and digestion disorders. Those with acute or chronic gastrointestinal diseases should eat less or avoid them.

Consuming a large amount of cold drinks after intense exercise can also cause gastrointestinal dysfunction, and in severe cases can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Moreover, consuming too many cold drinks will definitely affect the intake of regular meals. In addition, cold drinks contain a large amount of food additives. Some people describe them as: "Colorants are their clothes, and flavors are their souls." Especially for teenagers who are in the stage of growth and development, it is not advisable to consume too many cold drinks.

4. Change the menu regularly

This season is abundant in ingredients. Changing styles and combinations, and learning new cooking methods can stimulate our taste buds and arouse our appetite.

5. Increase acidity and spiciness appropriately

Sour and spicy foods are typical appetizers. A moderate amount of acidity and spiciness can help digestion, increase appetite, and prevent the common phenomenon of decreased secretion of digestive fluids and weakened gastric motility in high temperature and high humidity conditions.

6. Liquid foods are good for the stomach

Milk, yogurt, soy milk, and freshly squeezed fruit juice are all nutritious liquid foods. Consuming them in hot weather will not only prevent a decrease in appetite, but also quench thirst, cool down, and provide the body with essential nutrients.
