Preventing Knee Joint Problems: Avoiding Cold and Dampness

December 11, 2023

The knee joint is mainly composed of patella and tendons. The blood supply here is not abundant, so it is not resistant to cold and dampness. Clinically, knee joint diseases are often related to cold and dampness. Even in summer, one should avoid the invasion of cold and dampness.

  1. Avoid cold wind

Electric fans and air conditioners are effective tools for people to cool down. If they are used excessively, the temperature is too low, or they are used for too long, the cold wind will invade the knee joint, causing stagnation of qi and blood, leading to knee pain, numbness, swelling and other symptoms.

  2. Avoid cold water bathing

In the hot summer, if you take a cold water bath or shower when your body is hot and sweating, the cold and dampness will invade the knee joint, triggering knee joint problems.

  3. Avoid cold drinks

Excessive consumption of cold drinks and raw cold food can damage the spleen and stomach, causing a decrease in the function of transforming and transporting water and dampness. The knee joint loses its warmth, and the cold and dampness stagnate without being transformed. The knee joint's function of transforming and transporting is hindered, leading to the aggravation of the condition.
