Many smokers are well aware of the dangers of smoking and are eager to break free from their addiction. However, for various reasons, it is difficult to quit smoking all at once. So, what can be done? Here is a method called "gradual smoking cessation" that can be considered by those who want to quit smoking:
1. When you don't feel like smoking, don't succumb to others' persuasion, thus reducing passive mechanical smoking.
2. When smoking a cigarette, don't finish it in one breath. Only smoke one-third of it and discard the rest. This is not wasteful because the discarded portion contains the highest amount of carcinogens such as nicotine.
3. Try to smoke as little as possible, especially reducing the amount of smoke entering your lungs. Calculate the number of cigarettes smoked each day and try to make it less than the previous day.
4. Whenever you smoke, find ways to delay the time you smoke, consciously creating a situation where it's difficult for you to get a cigarette.
5. Instead of random days, plan designated smoke-free days such as Sundays for the sake of your family's health, or set a goal to not smoke until the end of the month or year. Of course, if you want to quit smoking completely, it's important to rely on your own willpower.
