Menstrual Hygiene: Tips for Comfort and Health during your Period

December 10, 2023

During menstruation, the blood volume in the pelvic cavity increases, and some people may feel bloating, heaviness, or pain in the lower abdomen. When blood clots or large pieces of endometrium are discharged, the uterus undergoes strong contractions, causing severe abdominal pain. Some people also have lower resistance and are more prone to catching a cold during menstruation. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the following menstrual hygiene matters.

1. Avoid excessive physical labor, such as carrying heavy loads, to prevent increased pelvic congestion and discomfort.

2. Maintain cleanliness of the external genitals to reduce the chance of infection. Wash the external genitals once a day, avoid sexual intercourse, sitting in a basin, or swimming. Use absorbent menstrual pads, sterilized paper, or cotton. Wash and sun-dry the menstrual pad frequently.

3. Maintain a regular lifestyle and avoid emotional fluctuations. Keep warm in cold weather and avoid getting cold.

4. Rest appropriately and seek medical attention if the abdominal pain is severe or if there is excessive bleeding.
