Do's and Don'ts After Exercise: Avoiding Common Mistakes for Better Recovery

November 29, 2023

After exercise, taking a cold shower immediately can cause a sudden stimulation, causing blood vessels to constrict immediately, increasing blood circulation resistance, and reducing the body's resistance, making people more susceptible to illness.

 First, do not rest immediately

After intense exercise, if you stop and rest immediately, the rhythmic contraction of the muscles will stop, and the large amount of blood that originally flowed into the muscles cannot flow back to the heart through muscle contractions, causing a decrease in blood pressure and temporary cerebral ischemia, leading to symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, pale complexion, and even shock and fainting.

Second, do not take an immediate bath

If you take a cold shower immediately after exercise, the sudden stimulation will cause blood vessels to constrict immediately, increase blood circulation resistance, and lower the body's resistance, making people more susceptible to illness. Taking a hot bath will increase the blood flow in the skin, causing excessive blood to flow into the muscles and skin, leading to insufficient blood supply to the heart and brain. Mild symptoms include dizziness and blurred vision, while severe symptoms include syncope and shock. It can also easily trigger other chronic diseases.

Third, do not eat excessive amounts of sugar

Some people feel comfortable eating sweets or sugar water after intense exercise, thinking that eating more sweets after exercise is beneficial. However, eating too much sugar after exercise can deplete vitamin B1 in the body, causing fatigue, loss of appetite, etc., affecting physical recovery. Therefore, it is best to eat more foods containing vitamin B1, such as vegetables, liver, eggs, etc., after intense exercise.

Fourth, do not drink alcohol to relieve fatigue

After intense exercise, the body's functions will be in a state of excitement. Drinking alcohol at this time will cause the body to absorb alcohol faster and enter the bloodstream, causing more harm to organs such as the liver and stomach than usual. Long-term drinking can lead to fatty liver, cirrhosis, gastritis, gastric ulcers, dementia, and other diseases. Even drinking beer after exercise is not good, as it increases uric acid in the blood, causing significant irritation to the joints and triggering arthritis.
