Tomato Soup: A Tasty Boost for Male Fertility

December 15, 2023

A recent study conducted by British scientists has shown that drinking tomato soup every day can increase the absorption of lycopene in the body, thereby helping to improve male fertility.

According to the British newspaper, The Telegraph, researchers from the Department of Biomedical Science at the University of Portsmouth randomly selected six healthy men with an average age of 42 and had them drink a 400-gram can of tomato soup every day for two consecutive weeks. The researchers found that the levels of lycopene in their semen increased by 7% to 12%. It is known that infertile men generally have lower levels of lycopene in their semen. Therefore, the researchers believe that the enhancement of male fertility is related to the increase in lycopene levels.

This research has been published in the British Journal of Urology. It is currently unclear what role lycopene plays in improving fertility. The researchers speculate that the antioxidants found in lycopene may help eliminate harmful chemicals in the body that can affect fertility.

Previous studies have shown that lycopene has potential therapeutic effects on various diseases caused by exercise-induced asthma and can also reduce the risk of prostate cancer. Tomatoes are considered a healthy food due to their high content of lycopene, but this is the first time scientists have discovered that tomatoes can help improve male fertility.
