Acupressure and acupuncture on specific points of the body can treat illnesses and promote health. Today, we will explore the Quze acupoint and its location and techniques. Let's take a closer look together!
What is the Quze Acupoint?
Quze means curved, and ze means swamp. The Qi flows into this point, like water entering a swamp, hence the name Quze.
Qu means curved, not straight. Ze refers to the place where water gathers.
This acupoint belongs to a confluent point, located precisely on the inside of the elbow. To locate it, slightly bend the elbow; it is named Quze because it is aligned with the Cheze acupoint.
Location of the Quze Acupoint
The standard location: the Quze acupoint is located in the middle of the elbow crease, on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon.
The Quze acupoint is located in the middle of the elbow crease, on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon. Bend the elbow slightly to locate the acupoint.
The Quze acupoint is located in the front area of the elbow, above the elbow crease, in the depression on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon. With the palm facing up, bend the elbow slightly to locate the acupoint.
Anatomical Structure of the Quze Acupoint
The Quze acupoint is beneath the skin, subcutaneous tissue, the median nerve, and the biceps muscle.
It is located where the brachial artery and vein pass. The main trunk of the median nerve is distributed here. The skin is innervated by the medial cutaneous nerve of the arm, and the skin has deep wrinkles.
In addition to the above-mentioned cutaneous nerve, there is also an important vein that starts from the ulnar side of the dorsal venous network of the hand, ascends behind and above the ulnar side of the forearm, turns to the front below the elbow pit, and receives the median vein of the elbow here. It then continues upwards along the inner edge of the biceps muscle and enters the brachial vein through the deep fascia at the midpoint of the arm.
When needling, the needle passes through the skin, subcutaneous fascia, the front fascia of the elbow between the important vein and the median vein, and directly punctures the main trunk of the median nerve and the deep surface of the biceps muscle.
This muscle is innervated by the medial cutaneous nerve.
1. Anatomical Layers
Skin → Subcutaneous tissue → Median nerve → Biceps muscle.
Skin → Subcutaneous tissue → Pronator teres muscle → Biceps muscle.
2. Nerves and Blood Vessels in the Acupoint Area
In the superficial layer, there are cutaneous nerves on the inner side of the forearm, the median vein, and the important vein; in the deep layer, there are the main trunk of the median nerve and the brachial artery.
The main trunk of the median nerve and the brachial artery are distributed here.
Techniques for Locating the Quze Acupoint
With the palm facing up, slightly bend the elbow and locate the acupoint on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon, above the elbow crease.
The Quze acupoint is located in the front area of the elbow, above the elbow crease, in the depression on the ulnar side of the biceps tendon. With the palm facing up, slightly bend the elbow to locate the acupoint.
With the palm facing up, bend the elbow at a 45° angle and locate the acupoint on the ulnar side of the brachioradialis muscle, in the depression next to the biceps tendon.
Quick location: slightly bend the elbow and feel for a large tendon. The depression on the inner side of the wrinkle is the Quze acupoint.
Effects of Massaging the Quze Acupoint
Pressing the Quze acupoint vertically with the thumb for 1 to 3 minutes can treat cardiovascular diseases such as chest pain and palpitations caused by rising heart fire.
