Exploring the Quze Acupoint: Location and Benefits

February 8, 2024

Acupressure and acupuncture at specific points on the body can treat diseases and promote health. Today, we will explore the Quze acupoint and its location. Let's take a closer look together!

What is the Quze acupoint?

Quze means curved, and ze means marsh. Just as water flows into a marsh, the meridian energy flows into this curved depression in the elbow, hence the name Quze.

Qu means curved, while ze refers to a marsh or a place where water collects.

This acupoint belongs to the combined acupoints and is located in the inner elbow. It is accessed by slightly bending the elbow, and it is named Quze because it is aligned with the Cheze acupoint.

Specific location of the Quze acupoint

The standard location: The Quze acupoint is located in the middle of the elbow crease, on the radial side of the biceps brachii tendon.

The Quze acupoint is located in the middle of the elbow crease, on the radial side of the biceps brachii tendon. Bend the elbow slightly to access the acupoint.

The Quze acupoint is located in the anterior region of the elbow, above the elbow crease, in the depression on the radial side of the biceps brachii tendon. Palms facing up, bend the elbow slightly to access the acupoint.

Anatomical structure of the Quze acupoint

The Quze acupoint is located below the skin, subcutaneous tissue, median nerve, and brachialis muscle.

It is where the brachial artery and vein are located, and the main trunk of the median nerve runs through this area. The skin is innervated by the inner arm cutaneous nerve, and the skin lines are deeper in this area.

In addition to the aforementioned cutaneous nerve, there is an important vein called the cephalic vein that originates from the ulnar side of the dorsal venous network of the hand. It ascends from the ulnar side of the forearm and turns to the front below the elbow pit, where it receives the median cubital vein. It then continues upward along the inner edge of the biceps brachii muscle and enters the brachial vein through the deep fascia at the midpoint of the arm.

When needling, the needle passes through the skin, subcutaneous fascia, the anterior fascia of the elbow between the important vein and the median cubital vein, and directly punctures the main trunk of the median nerve and the deep surface of the brachialis muscle.

This muscle is innervated by the musculocutaneous nerve.

1. Layers of the anatomical structure

Skin → Subcutaneous tissue → Median nerve → Brachialis muscle.

Skin → Subcutaneous tissue → Pronator teres muscle → Brachialis muscle.

2. Nerves and blood vessels in the acupoint area

In the superficial layer, there are the cutaneous nerve of the inner forearm, median cubital vein, and cephalic vein; in the deep layer, there are the median nerve and brachial artery.

The main trunk of the median nerve and the brachial artery and vein are distributed in this area.

Method of acupoint selection for the Quze acupoint

Palms facing up, slightly bend the elbow, and locate the acupoint in the depression on the radial side of the biceps brachii tendon.

The Quze acupoint is located in the anterior region of the elbow, above the elbow crease, in the depression on the radial side of the biceps brachii tendon. Palms facing up, slightly bend the elbow to access the acupoint.

Palms facing up, bend the elbow at a 45° angle, and locate the acupoint beside the radial side of the brachioradialis tendon in the depression.

Quick method of locating the acupoint: Slightly bend the elbow, and you will feel a large tendon. The depression on the inner side of the crease is the Quze acupoint.

Effects of massage on the Quze acupoint

Pressing the Quze acupoint vertically with the thumb for 1 to 3 minutes can treat cardiovascular diseases such as heart pain and palpitations caused by rising heart fire.
