February 3, 2024

Diarrhea, also known as loose stools, may not seem like a serious symptom, but it can still affect daily life and work. Today, I will recommend a traditional Chinese medicine method for treating diarrhea with cupping therapy. It has no side effects and is very effective in stopping diarrhea!

【Traditional Chinese Medicine Cupping Therapy for Diarrhea】

  Method 1

Main acupoints: Tian Shu, Da Chang Yu, Shang Ju Xu.

Additional acupoints: For those with spleen deficiency due to cold and dampness, add Pi Yu and Yin Ling Quan; for those with intestinal damp-heat, add Xia Ju Xu, Shou San Li, and He Gu; for those with stagnant food, add Zhong Wan and Jian Li; for those with liver depression and qi stagnation, add Qi Men; for those with spleen deficiency and qi sinking, add Pi Yu and Zu San Li; for those with spleen deficiency and qi sinking, add Guan Yuan and Qi Hai; for those with kidney yang deficiency, add Shen Yu and Guan Yuan.

Treatment course: Once a day, leaving the cups on for 10-15 minutes each time. 3 days make up one treatment course.

  Method 2

The patient lies in a supine position, and a medium-sized cup with a diameter of 6 cm is placed at the umbilicus (including the positions of Shen Que and both sides of Tian Shu). Usually, it is done every other day or every four days, and 1-3 sessions are often enough to alleviate or cure the symptoms. This method is suitable for those with watery and frequent bowel movements, pale and watery stools, or undigested stools.

Acupoints: Tian Shu, Guan Yuan, Zu San Li, Shang Ju Xu; Da Chang Yu, Xiao Chang Yu, Zu San Li, Xia Ju Xu.

Different cup sizes are used for different acupoint locations. The two sets of acupoints mentioned above are alternately used every day or every other day for cupping therapy. This method is suitable for diarrhea caused by spleen and stomach deficiency-cold.

  【Misconceptions about Medication for Diarrhea】

Misconception 1: Taking anti-diarrheal medication randomly

Summer diarrhea is often caused by bacterial or viral infections. If you take anti-diarrheal medication as soon as you have diarrhea, it means that the "toxic substances" in your body will be retained, which may lead to more severe diarrhea or even induce intestinal diseases.

Recommendation: In general, if you have diarrhea no more than 3 times a day, there is no need to rush to take anti-diarrheal or anti-inflammatory drugs. Drink more water, eat porridge, and replenish with saline solution.

  Misconception 2: Misuse of antibiotics

There are many causes of diarrhea. Antibiotics not only kill beneficial bacteria but also promote the proliferation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, disrupting the balance of the bacterial environment and worsening the condition.

Recommendation: If the condition is severe, it is recommended to go to a hospital for testing to determine the type of pathogenic bacteria, and then use medication according to the doctor's advice.

  Misconception 3: Ignoring diarrhea

Diarrhea is a self-limiting disease with the possibility of self-recovery. However, if it is ignored, there may be greater hidden dangers. Harmful substances produced by bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms, when absorbed by the body, can cause varying degrees of harm.

Recommendation: Mild diarrhea can be self-regulated at home, but if it is more severe, such as having diarrhea dozens of times a day and experiencing symptoms of fever and dehydration, it is necessary to seek timely treatment at a regular hospital.
