Massage Techniques
1. Preparation
Sit with your back straight, feet flat and shoulder-width apart. Place your left palm on top of the right hand, with the palms lightly resting on the lower abdomen. Keep your eyes slightly closed and breathe evenly. Relax your whole body and sit quietly for 1-2 minutes.
2. Rhythmically knead the Dazhui point
Place the middle finger of your right hand on the Dazhui point, with the index finger, ring finger, and little finger placed next to the acupoint. Apply appropriate pressure and knead the point for 0.5-1 minute.
Benefits: Invigorates yang energy and promotes pain relief.
3. Pinch the Jianjing point
Use one hand to pinch and press the Jianjing point on the opposite shoulder for 0.5-1 minute. Alternate between the shoulders.
Benefits: Relaxes muscles and promotes blood circulation.
4. Pinch the Anterior Axillary Fold
Place your thumb on the anterior axillary fold on the opposite side, with the other four fingers placed under the armpit. Pinch and knead the anterior axillary muscles for 0.5-1 minute. Alternate between both sides.
Benefits: Promotes blood circulation and relieves pain.
5. Rub the Renzhong point
Place the base of your right palm against the Renzhong point and rub in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion for 0.5-1 minute. Aim for local heat sensation.
Benefits: Expands the chest and regulates qi, clears the mind and relieves restlessness.
6. Rub the Upper Abdomen
Stack the palms of your left hand on top of the back of your right hand. Place the palm of your right hand on your upper abdomen. Apply appropriate pressure and make clockwise circular rubbing motions for 0.5-1 minute. Aim for local heat sensation in the upper abdomen.
Benefits: Expands the chest and regulates qi, strengthens the spleen and stomach.
7. Separate the Ribs
Place the four fingers of both hands together and place them on either side of the sternum (the lower end of the chest bone in the middle of the chest). Separate and push along the ribs (the lower edge of the chest cavity) for 0.5-1 minute.
8. Press the Neiguan point and Waiguan point together
Place the middle finger and thumb of one hand on the Neiguan point and Waiguan point of the other hand, and press and hold for 0.5-1 minute. Alternate between both hands.
Benefits: Calms the mind, soothes the stomach and regulates qi.
9. Pinch and press the Zusanli point
Place the thumb tips of both hands on the Zusanli point on the same side, with the other four fingers attached to the back of the calf. Pinch and press the point for 0.5-1 minute. Alternate between both legs.
