Acupressure for Insomnia: Natural Remedies to Relieve Stress and Promote Sleep

According to the survey, most people suffer from insomnia due to irregular lifestyle and excessive stress. Many people resort to sleeping pills or other sleep aids when faced with insomnia, but long-term use of these drugs is detrimental to the body. 1. Tap Yongquan Acupoint

Location: Yongquan acupoint is located in the center of the sole, between the second and third metatarsal bones, and is depressed when tiptoeing.

Massage: After washing your feet before bed, sit on the bed and tap the left Yongquan acupoint 120 times with your right palm, then tap the right Yongquan acupoint 120 times with your left palm. This will help ward off insomnia and have a peaceful night's sleep.

The masseur should use the middle fingers of both hands to rub the Anmian acupoint in a clockwise direction for about 2 minutes, and then rub it in a counterclockwise direction for 2 minutes, focusing on achieving a slight soreness or swelling sensation in the area.

3. Press Baihui Acupoint

Location: On the head, 5 inches directly above the anterior hairline, or at the midpoint of a line connecting the tips of both ears. It belongs to the governing vessel meridian.

Massage: Use the tip of the right thumb to press on the Baihui acupoint (located on the top of the head, 5 inches above the anterior hairline, or at the midpoint of a line connecting the tips of both ears). After a localized heavy or tingling sensation occurs, switch to using the thumb pad to rotate and massage the area for about 30 seconds. Then, use the palm as the axis and apply even pressure and rotation for another 30 seconds.

Benefits: Regularly pressing on the Baihui acupoint can help clear the mind, improve brain function, promote blood circulation and relieve insomnia.

4. Rub Sanyinjiao Acupoint

Location: On the inside of the lower leg, 4 finger widths above the inner ankle bone, on the posterior side of the shinbone.

Massage: The masseur should use the thumb to rub the Sanyinjiao acupoint in a clockwise direction for about 2 minutes, and then in a counterclockwise direction for 2 minutes, focusing on achieving a slight soreness or swelling sensation in the area.

Benefits: Helps treat insomnia, high blood pressure, decreased appetite, premenstrual tension, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, impotence, and nocturnal emissions.

5. Press Insomnia Acupoint

Location: At the intersection of the sole of the foot and the line connecting the inner and outer ankle bones.

Massage: The person receiving the massage should lie on their back, and the masseur should use the thumb to press the insomnia acupoint in the direction of the heel for 3 minutes, focusing on achieving a slight soreness or swelling sensation in the area.

Benefits: An effective acupoint for treating insomnia, heel pain, and more.

6. Rub Zusanli Acupoint

The Zusanli acupoint is located on the lower limbs (on the front outer side of the lower leg, 3 inches below the kneecap on the horizontal line).

When rubbing this acupoint, the patient can sit upright on the bed or chair, naturally straighten both lower limbs, use both thumbs to press and apply pressure on the Zusanli acupoint, and hold the calf with the other fingers. Then, use the thumb pad to apply penetrating pressure to the acupoint for 30 seconds, take a short break, and continue the pressure for a total of 3 minutes.

Rubbing the Zusanli acupoint regularly can help tonify the body, regulate the spleen and stomach, strengthen the body, promote metabolism, enhance the body's immune function, and aid in sleep.
