Slowly rotate the head and neck until you find the tender spot or sore muscle. Use your thumb or knuckles to rub, push, and knead the affected area with steady pressure, relieving the spasms and reducing pain. Repeat this process, finding new tender spots and applying the same technique, until the neck movement is back to normal and the tender spots disappear. 2. Stretching Technique: Research in sports medicine has shown that stretching and maintaining tension in spasmed muscles for more than two minutes can relieve muscle spasms and reduce or eliminate pain. Utilizing this principle, target the spasmed and contracted neck muscles to achieve full stretching, successfully relieving neck muscle spasms, reducing pain, improving local blood circulation, and restoring balance to the neck muscle group. (a) Sternocleidomastoid Muscle Stretching: The patient lies supine while the therapist holds the shoulder joint on one side to stabilize the shoulder, and uses the other hand to support the same side of the jaw. Slowly turn the patient's head towards the opposite side, maintaining the position without moving the hands for two minutes, and then relax. Repeat this process on both sides, performing 3-5 repetitions.
