April 17, 2024

Cough is a common disease in winter, affecting both the elderly and young people. If left untreated for a long time, it can develop into chronic pharyngitis and other difficult-to-cure diseases. The symptoms usually include morning coughing with a large amount of phlegm, which disrupts normal work and life. Below, we will introduce the method of massage therapy for cough, and we can learn it together.

Massage Therapy for Cough

When we cough, we usually go to the hospital to buy medicine or receive intravenous infusion. Generally, when we are sick and have a cough, we use these three methods for treatment. It is rare for someone to think of using massage to treat cough. Some experts have gradually developed acupressure massage methods to treat cough. By massaging certain acupoints, they achieve the effect of stimulation to treat cough.

Stimulating the acupoint Tian Tu, which is located at the middle depression of the upper edge of the sternal notch, can relieve cough and reduce throat pain. When pressing the Tian Tu acupoint, bend your fingers into a hook shape, then press the acupoint downwards (towards the anus), but be careful not to apply too much force.

The Tian Tu acupoint is located at the middle depression of the upper edge of the sternal notch.

With the face facing forward, place the tip of the index finger against the acupoint, and gently press it from top to bottom (towards the anus) for 1 to 2 minutes.

The Shang Lian Quan acupoint, located at the depression just below the lower jaw, has the function of stopping cough and soothing throat pain. While pressing the acupoint, move the head up and down to enhance the effectiveness.

Long-term coughing can damage lung function and weaken the body, so it is necessary to have sufficient rest and a balanced diet to facilitate early recovery.

The Shang Lian Quan acupoint is located on the midline, about one finger width below the lower jaw, between the hyoid bone and the lower jaw edge.

Place the thumb pad against the acupoint, gently press upwards, and hold the other four fingers slightly clenched. While pressing the acupoint, slowly move the head up and down 20 to 30 times.

Taking medicine is a painful experience for many people, especially for children who are afraid and fearful of taking medicine. They would even prefer injections or intravenous infusions over taking medicine. When we have a cough, we can choose not to rely on medication for treatment. Instead, we can follow the methods taught by experts and perform acupressure massage to treat cough. Massage does not require taking medicine or receiving injections or infusions. It only requires using our hands, which is convenient.
