The Healing Power of Li Gou Acupoint: Relieving Liver Disorders and Itching

February 16, 2024

There is a massage technique in Traditional Chinese Medicine that focuses on acupressure points. Today, I will introduce you to the Li Gou point, located on the inside of the calf, five inches above the inner ankle, in the center of the medial side of the tibia. This point has the effect of soothing the liver, relieving depression, moisturizing dryness, and stopping itching.

【Functions and Effects of Li Gou Acupoint】

The Li Gou acupoint is specifically used for treating liver and gallbladder diseases. Stimulating this point can regulate liver function, clear heat, dispel dampness, and relieve itching. It can also nourish blood, nourish yin, moisturize dryness, and relieve itching. It is an effective acupoint for treating pruritus.

The Li Gou acupoint can also regulate liver function, clear damp heat, nourish blood, and regulate menstruation. In clinical practice, it is used to treat menstrual disorders, dysmenorrhea, hernia, testicular pain, and other conditions.

Itching is often caused by damp heat in the liver and gallbladder. Therefore, stimulating the Li Gou acupoint can provide relief and treatment.

Of course, when undergoing specific treatments, it is best to combine it with other acupoints such as Qu Quan and Yin Ling Quan, as well as drink some green bean and coix seed porridge to detoxify the liver and dispel damp heat. This is the fundamental approach.

【Massage Methods for Li Gou Acupoint】

Stimulating the Li Gou acupoint can be done through massage. Use the tip of your thumb to firmly knead the Li Gou point for 3-5 minutes. Practice this massage daily to treat menstrual disorders and other gynecological conditions.

You can also use moxibustion to stimulate the Li Gou acupoint. Gently apply heat to the point with a moxa stick for 5-20 minutes, once a day. This can effectively treat and improve menstrual disorders and excessive uterine bleeding.

Cupping is also applicable to the Li Gou acupoint. Use a cupping jar to create suction on the Li Gou point and leave it for 5-10 minutes. Repeat this every other day to alleviate symptoms such as leg pain.

Scraping can also be used to stimulate the Li Gou acupoint. Use a scraping tool to scrape the point for three minutes, once every other day. The skin around the point should turn red or show the appearance of "sha" (red marks caused by scraping). This can relieve symptoms such as difficulty urinating and lower abdominal pain.
