Exploring the Paths: A Guide to the Meridians of the Body and Their Functions

(Eight) Kidney Meridian

1. Surface path

It starts below the little toe, crosses the sole of the foot, follows the inner ankle, ascends along the inner edge of the lower limb, passes through the first side line of the abdomen and chest, and stops below the clavicle.

2. Internal path

It belongs to the kidney, connects with the bladder, passes through the liver into the lungs, follows the throat, reaches the root of the tongue, and the branches from the lungs connect with the heart through the meridian of the hand Jueyin.

3. Functions and indications

Patting the kidney meridian can prevent and treat symptoms such as coughing blood, asthma, dry tongue, sore throat, edema, constipation, diarrhea, lower back pain, hot soles of the feet, weak waist and knees, and pain in the inner and posterior side of the spine.

(Nine) Pericardium Meridian

1. Surface path

It starts from the chest and reaches the armpit, descends along the middle of the inner side of the upper limb, and stops at the tip of the middle finger. The branches reach the ulnar side of the little finger from the palm and connect with the Sanjiao meridian of the hand Shaoyang.

2. Internal path

It starts from the chest and belongs to the pericardium, connects with the Sanjiao meridian.

3. Functions and indications

Patting the pericardium meridian can treat symptoms such as chest pain, chest tightness, palpitations, restlessness, mania, swelling, sudden spasms in the elbow and arm, and hot palms.

(Ten) Triple Burner Meridian

1. Surface path

It starts from the ulnar side of the little finger, ascends along the outer side of the upper limb, passes through the shoulder and neck, circles around the ear, and stops at the end of the eyebrow. The branches connect with the gallbladder meridian of the foot Shaoyang at the outer corner of the eye.

2. Internal path

It belongs to the triple burner, connects with the pericardium, and the branches reach the temples, cheeks, lower eye sockets, and ears.

3. Functions and indications

Patting the triple burner meridian can prevent and treat symptoms such as abdominal distention, edema, enuresis, difficulty urinating, deafness, tinnitus, sore throat, red and swollen eyes, cheek swelling, pain behind the ears, and pain on the outer side of the shoulder, arm, and elbow.

(Eleven) Gallbladder Meridian

1. Surface path

It starts from the outer corner of the eye, passes through the front and back of the ear, the temple, the shoulder, and descends along the outer side of the chest, abdomen, and lower limb, and stops at the outer side of the fourth toe. The branches reach the outer side of the big toe from the dorsum of the foot and connect with the liver meridian of the foot Jueyin.

2. Internal path

It connects with the liver and belongs to the gallbladder.

3. Functions and indications

Patting the gallbladder meridian can prevent and treat symptoms such as bitter taste in the mouth, eye diseases, malaria, headache, swelling of the jaw, pain in the outer corner of the eye, swelling and pain in the hypochondrium, fever, chest pain, pain on the outer side of the thigh, lower limb, and outer side of the foot.

(Twelve) Liver Meridian

1. Surface path

It starts from the outer side of the big toe, passes through the front of the ankle, ascends along the inner side of the femur, crosses behind the spleen meridian at 8 inches above the inner ankle, then ascends along the middle of the inner side of the thigh, circles around the genitals, passes through the lower abdomen, and stops between the sixth and seventh ribs below the nipple.

2. Internal path

It belongs to the liver, connects with the gallbladder, connects with the eye system, and meets with the governing vessel at the crown of the head. The branches reach the lower jaw from the eye system, encircle the lips, ascend to the diaphragm, and enter the lungs.

3. Functions and indications

Patting the liver meridian can prevent and treat symptoms such as lower back pain, chest fullness, hiccup, enuresis, difficulty urinating, hernia, liver disease, gynecological diseases, lower abdomen, and the locations where the meridian passes through.

(Thirteen) Conception Vessel

1. Surface path

It starts from the perineum, follows the midline of the abdomen, chest, and neck, and stops below the lower lip. The branches surround the lips, enter the eye sockets through the face.

2. Internal path

It starts from the lower abdomen and exits at the perineum.

3. Functions and indications

Patting the conception vessel can prevent and treat symptoms such as hernia, leukorrhea, and abdominal masses.

(Fourteen) Governing Vessel

1. Path

It starts from the lower abdomen and exits at the perineum, follows the sacrum, waist, back, and neck, and ascends along the midline to Fengfu, enters the brain, and reaches the top of the head. It then descends to the forehead, passes through the nose bridge, and stops inside the upper lip.

2. Internal path

It starts from the lower abdomen and exits at the perineum.

3. Functions and indications

Patting the governing vessel can prevent and treat symptoms such as mental disorders, febrile diseases, and diseases of the head, neck, waist, and back.
