Treating Vaginitis with Ligu Acupoint Massage: A Traditional Chinese Medicine Approach

【Location of Ligu Acupoint】

1. Standard Location

Ligu acupoint is located on the inner side of the lower leg, 5 cun above the inner ankle and in the middle of the medial side of the tibia.

2. Method of Locating the Acupoint

Sit or lie down, draw a horizontal line on the medial side of the tibia 5 cun above the inner ankle, and locate the acupoint at the intersection of the posterior one-third of the medial side of the tibia.

Fast location method: Sit, measure 7 horizontal fingerbreadths vertically above the inner ankle tip, and the depression on the medial side of the tibia is the Ligu acupoint.

3. Anatomy of the Acupoint

Below the Ligu acupoint are the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and the gastrocnemius muscle. The skin is innervated by the cutaneous nerve. The subcutaneous tissue is loose and contains superficial veins, cutaneous nerves, and superficial lymphatic vessels.

The great saphenous vein and the cutaneous nerve run together, originating from the medial part of the dorsal venous network of the foot, and ascend anterior to the inner ankle along the medial side of the lower leg.

【Compatibility of Ligu Acupoint】

Ligu acupoint combined with Bai Chong Wo, Yin Ling Quan, and San Yin Jiao acupoints can treat trichomonal vaginitis;

Ligu acupoint combined with Zhong Du, Di Ji, Zhong Ji, and San Yin Jiao acupoints can treat irregular menstruation, leukorrhea, and orchitis;

Ligu acupoint combined with Da Dun, Qi Chong can treat testicular swelling, hernia, and abnormal white discharge.

Ligu acupoint combined with Yin Ling Quan and San Yin Jiao acupoints has the effect of promoting blood circulation and relieving pain, and is used to treat soreness in the lower leg.

Ligu acupoint combined with Tai Chong and Qi Hai acupoints has the effect of soothing the liver, regulating Qi, and relieving pain, and is used to treat hernia and testicular pain.

Ligu acupoint combined with Bai Hui and Guan Yuan acupoints, with moxibustion or attached with Ai Ye cake, has the effect of warming Yang, raising sinking Qi, and is used to treat uterine prolapse.
