Moisturizing and Nourishing the Lungs: The Technique of "Yizhichan

December 8, 2023

As the air becomes drier, many chronic respiratory diseases are about to enter a high incidence stage. The technique of "Yizhichan" - pushing, pressing, rubbing, wiping, tapping, and striking - can effectively moisturize and nourish the lungs.

Procedure: Perform the treatment in a seated or supine position on the following acupoints: Yingxiang (beside the nose), Tiantu (below the Adam's apple), Tanzhong (midpoint between the two nipples), Lieque (1.5 inches above the transverse crease of the wrist on the radial side of the forearm), Dingchuan (0.5 inches beside the Dazhui acupoint), Qihai (1.5 inches below the navel), Guanyuan (3 inches below the navel), Fenglong (8 inches above the outer ankle), and Zusanli (about 3 inches below the outer side of the knee). Each acupoint should be massaged for about half a minute, using a level of pressure that causes a slight soreness or mild warmth. Rub the chest, shoulders, and ribs with the palms of both hands, using a level of pressure that causes a slight warmth. Quickly rub the waist and sacrum with the palms of both hands, using a level of pressure that causes a slight soreness. In a supine or seated position, self-massage the abdomen (avoid doing this on a full stomach or an empty stomach). Perform a five-channel massage: with the fingers naturally separated, use the fingertips as the points of pressure, slowly push from the Yintang acupoint to the Fengchi acupoint, alternating hands for 3 minutes. Avoid using this technique on individuals with bleeding disorders in the abdomen, during pregnancy, with local skin damage, or with a recent history of surgery.
