Similar to the gua sha technique, the tools used for gua sha are also simple and convenient. Any object with a smooth edge, such as a comb or a porcelain cup lid, can be used for gua sha. However, if used regularly or for therapeutic purposes, it is better to use a more formal gua sha board. Gua sha boards made from natural water buffalo horn are selected as they do not have any toxic or adverse chemical reactions on the skin. Moreover, water buffalo horn itself is a type of traditional Chinese medicine, which has the functions of dispersing qi, promoting blood circulation, and nourishing the body.
In addition, before performing gua sha, in order to prevent skin abrasions, a layer of lubricant should be applied to the surface of the skin. Sesame oil or salad oil can be used. Of course, if possible, it is best to use a specialized "gua sha blood circulation oil". This oil is made from a combination of natural plant oils and more than ten types of traditional Chinese medicines, using a combination of traditional and modern high-tech methods, and has the functions of clearing heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, opening pores, dredging meridians, detoxifying and expelling evil, reducing inflammation and relieving pain, and so on.
