Enhancing Health with Licorice: Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedies and Tea Recipes

Licorice is a highly valuable traditional Chinese medicine that can be used both medicinally and as a tea. The health benefits of licorice can be enhanced when combined with these ingredients!


Licorice Three Bean Drink

Ingredients: 10g mung beans, 10g adzuki beans, 10g black beans, 3g raw licorice

Preparation: Wash the three types of beans and soak them in water for 1 hour. Then, add them to a pot with the licorice, add an appropriate amount of water, bring to a boil, and simmer over low heat until cooked thoroughly. This can be consumed as a beverage.

Usage: The above is one serving, to be consumed 2-3 times a day for 5-7 consecutive days.

Cinnamon Twig and Licorice Tea

Ingredients: 10g cinnamon twigs, 5g raw licorice

Ingredients: 3g pinellia, 3g fritillary bulb, 3g licorice, 2g almond, 1g ephedra, 5g tea leaves

Method: Boil pinellia, fritillary bulb, almond, and ephedra in water, then add tea leaves and licorice, simmer briefly, and pour into a cup.

Benefits: Clears heat, moistens the lungs, transforms phlegm, and stops coughing.

Hawthorn and Licorice Tea

Ingredients: 100g hawthorn, 50g licorice, 2 liters of water

Method: Soak the hawthorn in a small amount of alkaline water for 10 minutes, remove the stems, cut in half, add fresh water to a pot, bring to a boil over medium heat, then simmer over low heat for 10 minutes. Add the licorice and the water used to soak the licorice, continue to simmer for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat. Let it cool before drinking.
