【Source】The whole herb of the legume plant Shan Ma Huang.
【Morphology】Small shrub, up to 1 meter tall. The base of the stem is 2.5 millimeters in diameter and has edges. 3-pinnate leaves, with elliptic-rhombic terminal leaflets, short acuminate or obtuse at the tip, cuneate at the base, and glabrous; about 4.5-8 centimeters long and 2.1-3.5 centimeters wide. The lateral leaflets are smaller and obliquely elliptic. The petiole is 4-7 centimeters long. The stipule is lanceolate and lanceolate, about 5 millimeters long. The inflorescence is terminal, in a cone shape, up to 30 centimeters long; axillary inflorescences are racemose. The pedicel is 3-5 millimeters long. The flowers are small, pink, and about 3.5 millimeters long. The calyx is about 1.5 millimeters long, with short teeth. The corolla is butterfly-shaped, with rounded standard petals and a slightly concave apex, and wing petals adnate to the keel petal. There are 10 stamens and 1 pistil. The fruit usually has 2 segments, curved on the back, deeply divided to the ventral suture, truncate on the upper side, cuneate at the base, about 6 millimeters long and 3.5 millimeters wide, and densely covered with hooked hairs on the surface. The fruit stalk is 3-4 millimeters long. Flowering period is from July to September.
【Habitat Distribution】It grows on mountain slopes or forest edges. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, and other places.
