The Significance of Sha: Pathological Reactions and Scraping Therapy

November 28, 2023

"Sha" has two main meanings: First, it refers to the pathological reaction of "Sha", also known as "Sha Xiang"; second, it refers to the reaction after scraping and stimulating, known as "Sha Hen", which differs in morphology and color.

1. Sha Xiang

Sha Xiang also has two meanings.

First, it refers to the red spots that appear on the surface of the skin, such as the rash in wind epidemic called "Feng Sha" and the rash in scarlet fever called "Dan Sha". This is a type of positive pathological reaction, and many diseases can cause the appearance of Sha. Therefore, there is a saying "all diseases can cause Sha".

Second, it refers to Sha Zheng, also known as Sha Zhang or Sha Qi. It is a type of disease that often occurs in the transition between summer and autumn. It is caused by the invasion of wind, cold, heat, dampness, dryness, fire, or the impurity of epidemic toxins. In clinical practice, wind Sha and warm Sha are more common in spring, and heat Sha is more common in summer and autumn. These are not single diseases, but clinical symptoms of toxic reactions.

2. Sha Hen

Sha Hen refers to the various changes in skin morphology and color that occur after scraping the skin. Common Sha Hen includes local tissue flushing, purplish-red or purplish-black bruises, or small purplish-red spots, often accompanied by varying degrees of heat. Sha Hen has certain clinical significance in the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis evaluation of diseases.

In summary, Sha Xiang is the pathological reaction of all diseases on the surface of the body, and scraping therapy uses specific tools and techniques to stimulate the skin in specific areas, causing local patchy or punctate blood stasis or bleeding reactions (Sha Hen), in order to achieve the purpose of preventing and treating diseases.
