During fasting, there are many foods that are not allowed to be eaten, such as grains. Can fruits be eaten during fasting?

Can Fruits Be Eaten During Fasting?

A moderate amount of fruits can be eaten during fasting.

Fasting does not mean complete abstinence from food. Some fruits can be consumed during fasting. Fruits are generally rich in dietary fiber, and eating a moderate amount of fruits during fasting can regulate and improve the intestinal flora, activate and multiply beneficial bacteria such as bifidobacteria, and inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria in the intestines. Additionally, fruits can promote intestinal peristalsis and have a laxative effect.

What Fruits Can Be Eaten During Fasting?

Eating fruits during fasting can supplement vital energy and help eliminate residual grains from the body. Therefore, during this period, apples, pears, peaches, grapes, kiwis, dragon fruits, red dates, etc. can be chosen. However, these fruits should not be eaten in excessive amounts. For example, it is best not to eat more than one apple a day, and only one slice at a time is sufficient to avoid feeling thirsty or hungry. Also, it is advisable not to spit out the date pit after eating it regularly to replenish saliva.

What Fruits Should Not Be Eaten During Fasting?

Lychee

Lychees contain a high amount of sugar. Eating lychees during fasting can stimulate the gastric mucosa, causing stomach pain and bloating.

Orange

Oranges contain a large amount of sugar and organic acids, which can stimulate the gastric mucosa and increase gastric acid secretion, leading to fullness and acid reflux. Therefore, it is best not to eat oranges during fasting.

Banana

Bananas contain a relatively high amount of magnesium. Eating bananas during fasting can disrupt the balance of magnesium and calcium in the blood, which has inhibitory effects on the cardiovascular system.

Tomato

Tomatoes contain a large amount of pectin. Eating tomatoes during fasting can react with gastric acid to form insoluble clumps, causing discomfort in the stomach.

Pineapple

Pineapples contain strong proteolytic enzymes. Eating pineapples during fasting can damage the gastric wall.

Watermelon

Watermelons have cooling properties. Eating watermelons during fasting, when the spleen and stomach are in a resting state, can easily irritate the stomach, leading to stomach cramps and diarrhea.

Precautions for Eating Fruits During Fasting

During fasting, it is best to choose fruits that are easily digestible. It is also advisable to eat fruits when feeling hungry. Additionally, avoid eating only a single type of fruit and avoid consuming frozen fruits.
