Can Push-ups Help Reduce Belly Fat?

October 19, 2023

Sitting in the office for long periods of time can lead to excess belly fat, especially as summer is approaching. A large belly can be unattractive in clothing, so it's time to prioritize a plan to slim down the stomach. Can push-ups help us get rid of belly fat when done as a regular at-home exercise?

Can Push-ups Reduce Belly Fat?

Push-ups can assist in reducing belly fat.

Push-ups are a strength and endurance exercise that helps increase red muscle fibers and muscle glycogen reserves. The relationship between fat and muscle is closely intertwined, so regularly doing push-ups can aid in burning fat and, to some extent, help reduce belly fat.

Are Push-ups Effective for Reducing Belly Fat?

Using push-ups to reduce belly fat has its limitations.

Doing push-ups relies on the strength of the abdominal muscles, which can make the abdomen tight and firm, thus exercising the abdominal muscles. However, fat in the body does not burn, so relying solely on push-ups will not have a significant effect on reducing belly fat. Combining push-ups with aerobic exercises such as jogging, swimming, or cycling will yield better results in slimming down the stomach.

Methods for Using Push-ups to Reduce Belly Fat

Kneeling Push-ups

Kneel on a mat or towel, place your arms in front of you, and support yourself with your hands. While lifting your upper body, tighten your lower abdomen and take deep breaths. Repeat this movement 10 times.

Modified Push-ups

Kneel on the ground, lean your body forward, place your hands on the ground directly under your shoulders, and keep your legs bent. Your body should form a straight line from your knees to your head. Bend your elbows outward and lower your body close to the floor. Tighten your abdominal muscles and keep your body in a straight line for one second before returning to the starting position.

Tips

While relying on exercise to lose weight, it is important to adjust your diet properly. Fruits and vegetables create a sense of fullness, so you can eat more of them. Limit consumption of desserts and foods high in sugar. Constipation can also contribute to excess belly fat, so it is recommended to eat more high-fiber foods, as they can effectively treat constipation.
