Why do joints ring when you exercise?

September 2, 2023
A lot of sports partners will have such a question, in the movement of the knees, shoulders, cervical spine and other bone joint parts of the sound of clicking, many people are baffled by this. Why is it that the bones and joints will ring when exercising?

Rupture of air bubbles in the joint cavity

There is joint fluid in the joint that can play a lubricating role, and the fluid contains gases such as carbon dioxide, oxygen and nitrogen. In the process of movement will squeeze the joint, the joint capsule expansion, the gas will be quickly released, the formation of bubbles, the bubble rupture when the sound is produced.

Tendons sliding on bones

The moving joints of the human body are formed by the tendons of many muscles and a large number of ligaments firmly grasping each other, which can avoid unnecessary frictional impacts between bones that are too close to each other. Therefore, when exercising, there may be tendons sliding on the bones occasionally resulting in a ringing sound.

Insufficient secretion of joint fluid

Insufficient arthritis secretion may cause one joint surface to rub against the rough bone of another joint surface and cause a ringing sound, which usually occurs when there is a lack of exercise or a sudden increase in exercise.

Damage to joint cartilage

Although bones collide with each other during exercise, there is a layer of cartilage that protects the joints where they rub together. If there is too much exercise, or if the ligaments and joints are overstretched due to incorrect posture, this can lead to damage to the joint cartilage, thus increasing the collision between the bones and making a loud noise.

Is joint ringing during exercise harmful to the body?

If the sound occurs only when the joint movement and is not frequent, and the part does not sound when not exercising, and there is no other discomfort, such as soreness, pain, etc., when the ringing occurs, it is generally physiological and not very harmful to health. However, if the joints often ring during exercise or pain, soreness and swelling and other uncomfortable feelings, there are still certain hazards to health. Before each exercise must do targeted intensive training, and then start regular training, serious cases are recommended to immediately go to the hospital for examination.

Can you continue to exercise if your joints are ringing?

In fact, whether you can continue to exercise depends on the specific situation. If there is no discomfort after the joint ringing and you can move normally, you can still exercise normally; however, if there is pain or swelling when or after the joint ringing, you should stop exercising immediately and seek prompt medical examination.
