What is the swelling of the fingers after a walk?

April 16, 2023
It is normal for the body to get warm after a walk, but some people will have hot and swollen fingers after a walk, sometimes the swelling will disappear after half an hour's rest, sometimes it takes hours or even days for the feeling of swollen fingers to disappear, what is the cause of this?

Caused by poor venous reflux

When walking, blood circulation is accelerated, and because the arm is down, local blood circulation is poor, resulting in poor venous return, swelling of the fingers may occur, and the symptoms usually disappear after a few hours. If it occurs only occasionally after strenuous exercise, it is normal and does not require special treatment.

Caused by poor kidney function

Edema may also occur with poor kidney function, except that swollen fingers do not only appear after a walk, but also at other times. In addition, other parts of the body, such as the face and feet, may have edema. The symptoms will disappear in a few hours in mild cases, and may remain edematous in severe cases.

Caused by malnutrition

Malnutrition causes a decrease in protein in the blood plasma, which does not form enough albumin, and the waste material in the tissues cannot be completely discharged, and edema will occur over time.

Caused by rheumatoid arthritis

Swelling of the fingers is a common symptom of rheumatoid arthritis. Blood circulation is accelerated after a walk, but because of poor circulation of local tissue fluid in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, swelling is likely to occur. Symptoms can usually be improved by applying heat or rubbing to generate heat.
