Why does your butt hurt after riding a bicycle?

Compression caused by your own weight

The bicycle seat and the cyclist's hip are the main support points, and most of the body's weight is pressed against it. Therefore, riding for too long will buttocks pain, but also easy to cause local blood circulation, is not conducive to cyclist health, especially men.

Hip friction caused when pedaling a bicycle

Pedaling when the buttocks in the cushion occurred slightly swaying left and right, rubbing the edge of the cushion, over time will lead to skin damage, and then produce pain. The shearing force generated by the friction of the cushion, combined with the effect of compression will further aggravate the blood circulation disorder.

Other factors

In addition, there are also some factors that can aggravate the symptoms of bicycle butt pain, such as: too hard a cushion, too much force when pedaling, and pants that are not loose and soft enough.

What to do if your butt hurts on a bicycle

Change the cushion to a softer one

When riding a bicycle, the pressure on the buttocks is high, if the cushion is hard, riding for too long will really produce pain, you can change a softer cushion, which can improve the pain to a certain extent.

Raise the car seat

If you still feel pain in the buttocks after replacing the cushion, you can adjust the seat higher, probably at the waist. This way, when riding a bicycle, the back is pressed down and the weight is transferred partly to the arms, which can also relieve the pain in the buttocks.

Wear cycling pants

Cycling pants have cushioned cotton pads in the crotch and are made of thick material. When cycling, wear them close to the body, within 2000km, there is no possibility of wear and tear, greatly reducing the feeling of pressure. And it does keep you fresh.

Intermittent hip elevation

Ride for about 15 minutes, to lift the hips off the saddle for 30 seconds, which can help blood circulation usually. In addition, when going uphill, the legs need to pedal hard, the pressure on the hips will increase, at this time you can also lift the hips to pedal the bike to avoid pressure on the hips.

Control the time of cycling

Bicycle butt pain is mostly caused by too long riding time, and mostly occurs in rookie riders. At the beginning, it is not recommended that the single time exceeds 1 hour, must be gradual, do not pursue the riding ability. If you want to ride long distances, you can take a 15-minute break every hour of riding, which can also improve the pain in the buttocks.
