How to do when swimming cramps

March 30, 2023
Summer is here, people can swim again, how to do when swimming cramps? Cramps are caused by excessive contraction of muscles caused by cold stimulation, excessive mental tension and excessive physical exertion. In summer, swimming is very easy to occur because of the hot weather and low water temperature.

Leg and stomach cramps

Leg and stomach cramps are the most common because the legs and feet are far from the heart and are most susceptible to cold and excessive contractions. When you have a leg stomach cramp, take a breath, lean back to sleep, hold the cramped toe with the fingers on the opposite side of the cramp and pull hard toward your body, and press the other hand on the knee of the cramped leg to help straighten the knee joint; if you can't relieve it once, you can do it several times in a row.

Thigh cramps

When you have a thigh cramp, take a breath, then float to the surface, bend your thigh and knee, then hold your calf with both hands, press it against your thigh and shake it, and then straighten it forward with force.

Calf or toe cramps

Use the hand on the opposite side of the cramped calf to hold the cramped toe and pull it hard, while using the palm of the same side to press the knee of the cramped calf and straighten the calf as much as possible, repeatedly pressing and pulling until the symptoms are relieved.

Rectus abdominis cramp

Rectus abdominis cramp is an abdominal cramp. When the cramp occurs, bend the lower limbs near the abdomen, hold the knees with both hands, then straighten them forward and stretch them repeatedly until the cramp disappears.

Cramps in other parts

When the upper arm cramps, clench your fist and try to bend your elbow, then stretch forward with force, and repeat several times; for finger cramps, clench your fist, then open it with force, and do this quickly and alternately several times until the cramps stop.

Swimming precautions

Before going into the water, move your legs and feet and do some preparatory activities; go into the water gradually, don't jump into the water suddenly; don't panic when you encounter cramps, especially in deep water.
