  Cha Tian Pao, also known as: Da Mai Mei (Zhai Yuan Fang), Cha Tian Biao (Gang Mu), Duan Yang Mei, Korean Hook Thorn.

  Deciduous shrub, about 3 meters tall.

  Stem erect, or curved into an arch, reddish-brown or purple-red, often covered with white powder, with flat hook-like prickles.

  Odd-pinnate compound leaves alternate, petiolate; leaflets 3-7, mostly 5, terminal leaflet larger, rhombic-ovate, lateral leaflets ovate, 3-6 cm long, 1.5-4 cm wide, apex acute, base broadly cuneate or nearly rounded, irregularly serrate with coarse sharp teeth on the margins, soft hairs along the veins on the lower surface; stipules linear.

  Umbellate inflorescences terminal or axillary, hairy; sepals 5, lanceolate, with tail-like tips at the apex, soft hairs on the outer surface;

  Petals 5, pink inverted ovate, shorter than the sepals; numerous stamens; numerous pistils, stigma nearly terminal.

  Aggregate fruit small, ovoid, red when ripe.

  Flowering period from April to May.

  Fruiting period from July to August.

  Grows in slope shrubs, along mountain roads, forest edges, and ditches, etc.

  Distributed in Henan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan, and other places.

  The fruit of this plant is used as raspberries in Shaanxi, Sichuan, and other places.

  Promotes blood circulation, stops bleeding. Treats hemoptysis, epistaxis, irregular menstruation, and bruises.

  1. Treats irregular menstruation

  Take 15g of Da Wu Pao Indefinite Root. Steam with equal parts of rice wine and water, and take orally twice a day.

  2. Treats lower back pain and joint pain

  Take 30g of Korean Hook Thorn root and soak in 120g of rice wine. Take warm orally in the morning and evening.

  3. Treats dysentery

  Take 15g of Korean Hook Thorn root and decoct in water for oral administration.

  4. Treats urinary retention

  Take 15g of Korean Hook Thorn root (terminal root), 9g of Plantago asiatica, and 6g of water lampwick. Decoct in water for oral administration.

  Dosage and Administration of Radix Invertedis

  Oral: Decoction, 2-5 qian (6-15 grams); or soaked in alcohol.

  External use: Crush and apply as a poultice.
