Relief for Migraine: Traditional Chinese Medicine Remedies

April 6, 2024

Migraine is a type of recurrent headache caused by vascular dysfunction, which can present with symptoms such as cyclic headache, nausea, vomiting, and photophobia. Traditional Chinese medicine offers remedies to quickly relieve migraine symptoms!

Three Typical Symptoms of Migraine

1. Premonitory Symptoms of Migraine

60% of migraine sufferers experience premonitory symptoms several hours to days before the onset of headache.

These symptoms are not prodromes and can occur in both migraines with aura and migraines without aura.

They can manifest as mental and psychological changes, such as depression, fatigue, lethargy, drowsiness, or emotional excitement, irritability, anxiety, restlessness, or a sense of euphoria.

2. Visual Disturbances Caused by Migraine

Prior to a migraine attack, there may be visual disturbances such as blurred vision, seeing flashes of light, or a feeling of eye heaviness, which can last for several minutes to half an hour.

Recurrent migraines primarily affect the frontal and temporal regions, sometimes developing into a full-headache.

Patients may experience nausea, vomiting, tearing in response to light stimuli, and some may even sweat or have increased blood pressure.

3. Harmful Effects of Migraine Attacks

Each attack can last from several hours to several days, occurring daily or every few days.

During the prodromal phase, symptoms can be relieved by using ergotamine caffeine. The interictal period is normal.

During an attack, there are no positive signs on neurological examination. Migraine headaches can have detrimental effects on one's health.
