Sevenspiked Maple

【Source】 The root and leaves of Macropanax rosthornii (Harms) C.Y.Wu ex Hoo [Nothopanax rosthornii Harms] of the Araliaceae family are used as medicine.
【Habitat】 Guizhou.
【Properties】 Sweet and neutral.
【Functions and Indications】 Dispels wind and dampness, activates blood circulation.
Rheumatic pain: Take an equal amount of sevenspiked maple leaves, sanjiaofeng, shedaoxi, zijinniu, hongniuxi, and wujiapi, decoct them in water and wash the affected area. Also, take 3 grams each of sevenspiked maple root, sanjiaofeng, hongniuxi, and wujiapi, decoct them in water or soak them in wine for consumption.
Bone fracture: First reset the bone, then apply an appropriate amount of sevenspiked maple root to the affected area. Another method is to take 9-15 grams of the root, steam them in wine, and consume 15 grams each time, 2 times a day.
The original form of sevenspiked maple:
Evergreen shrub. The stem is erect and without thorns. Leaves are alternate; long stalks with enlarged base clasping the stem; palmately compound leaves with 5-7 leaflets; leaflets are elongated elliptic, 2-5 cm long, 8-15 mm wide, gradually pointed at the tip, wedge-shaped at the base, with spine-like serrations on the edges, and soft teeth on the upper main veins, pale green on the underside. The flowers are arranged in umbrella-shaped inflorescences, forming compound panicles; the calyx is 5-toothed; the petals are 5, arranged in a pincer-like manner; there are 5 stamens; the ovary is inferior. The fruit is flattened.
Planting sevenspiked maple:
Usually, it can be dug up when the leaves change color. When caring for it, it is best to use sandy soil, which means soil with good drainage. It should be planted shallowly, so the soil should not be dug too deep. For fertile soil, the seedling is planted higher, and the soil is piled up higher. If conditions permit, it is best to provide shade or plant it in a place with less intense sunlight. It is also preferable to plant it in a place where the air is not too dry, which means facing west and east, in a place where the winter wind is not strong, so that the leaves can stay red for a longer period of time.
