The Detoxifying Power of Chinese Herbal Medicine Bai Du Cao

March 23, 2024

Chinese herbal medicine Bai Du Cao is mainly distributed in Northeast China, Northwest China, Southwest China, and other regions. Although this wild grass may sound like a poisonous plant, it is actually a true detoxifying medicine!

1. Growth Environment

Bai Du Cao likes warm and well-ventilated environments, and it thrives under sunlight. It prefers damp conditions. Wild Bai Du Cao can be found in various parts of northern China, mostly growing near marshes and damp river ditches. Nowadays, it is also cultivated on small slopes by the river in parks, with its vibrant color catching the eye from afar.

2. Moisture and Soil

Bai Du Cao has strong vitality and requires minimal care. It is usually planted in large patches, with parks being the main cultivation areas. For potted plants, choose a flower pot with a diameter of about 50 centimeters and fill it with fertile pond mud up to two-thirds of the pot's depth. Plant five seedlings in one pot.

If you want to create a mini potted plant, choose a pot with a diameter of about 20 centimeters and trim the plant regularly during its growth period to promote dwarfing and branching. Keep the pot moist during the growth period.

3. Temperature and Pest Control

If you choose to plant Bai Du Cao in your courtyard, you don't have to worry about it freezing to death in winter. Bai Du Cao has strong cold resistance and generally does not require insulation measures.

For open-field cultivation, it can naturally survive the winter without protection, but it needs to be transplanted every two years. When grown in well-ventilated and well-lit environments, it is generally free from diseases and pests. However, if the plants are densely packed and lack ventilation, they may be attacked by red spiders, which can be controlled with regular insecticides.
