The Multi-faceted Benefits of Sanqi: From Angina Pectoris to Eye Bleeding Treatment

March 19, 2024

Sanqi is a medicinal plant with the dual functions of promoting blood circulation and stopping bleeding, and reducing swelling and relieving pain. In recent years, experts have conducted extensive pharmacological research and clinical trials on Sanqi, achieving great results. The clinical application of Sanqi is becoming increasingly widespread, and its development in the field of medicine has been greatly expanded.

1. Treatment of angina pectoris

Take 0.45 grams orally, 3 times a day, with double dosage for severe cases. Among the 16 patients with angina pectoris as the chief complaint, except for one patient who had no effect after several days of medication and was diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction, the other 15 patients were satisfied with the analgesic effect. Four patients who originally needed to take sustained-release nitroglycerin tablets for a long time could stop taking them after taking Sanqi; 5 patients with hypertension experienced a slow decrease in blood pressure after taking the medication; 3 patients had a slower heart rate after taking the medication; and 4 patients showed slight improvement in their electrocardiograms.

The experimental results have proven that Sanqi has a significant effect on increasing coronary blood flow and reducing myocardial oxygen consumption. It also has the functions of lowering arterial pressure and slightly reducing heart rate, reducing the workload of the heart. All of these effects help to alleviate the burden on the heart and ease the contradiction between myocardial oxygen demand and supply, making it a beneficial factor in the treatment of coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. Additionally, according to observations of a few cases, taking 1.8 grams of Sanqi powder three times a day before meals continuously for one month has a certain effect in lowering blood lipid and cholesterol levels.

No obvious side effects were observed during the course of medication, and some cases reported increased energy and alleviation of clinical symptoms after taking the medication. Blood routine examination showed no significant changes in the blood profile, but there seemed to be an increase in platelet count.

2. Anti-thrombotic effect

Sanqi has a significant anti-thrombotic effect. 40 patients with latent thrombosis, whose results of external blood clot detection exceeded 100% of the normal values for thrombus length, wet weight, and dry weight, were treated and observed, with a Western medicine group as a control. The treatment group took 2 grams of Sanqi powder twice a day. Each treatment cycle lasted for 30 days. The results showed that 14 cases had all three indicators reduced to normal levels, while 5 cases had 1-2 indicators reduced to normal levels. The difference in the rate of returning to normal levels compared to the Western medicine group was significant.

This indicates that Sanqi plays an important role in preventing the formation and promoting the regression of atherosclerotic plaques, improving blood fluidity, and reducing the formation of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular thrombosis. It can be used as a health care medicine for arteriosclerosis, coronary heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and thrombocytopenic purpura.

3. Treatment of hemoptysis

Take 2-3 parts of Sanqi powder, 2-3 times a day, for a total of 10 patients with hemoptysis caused by bronchiectasis, pulmonary tuberculosis, and lung abscess. The amount of hemoptysis ranged from 50 to 600 milliliters. After taking the medication, 1 patient stopped bleeding after 5 days, 6 patients stopped bleeding between 10 and 30 days, and 3 patients stopped bleeding between 31 and 60 days. Among them, 8 cases achieved complete hemostasis, but 2 cases had a small amount of hemoptysis again 1-2 weeks after the bleeding had stopped. This medication has a hemostatic, antitussive, expectorant, and analgesic effect on pulmonary diseases, and no side effects were observed in any of the patients.

4. Peptic ulcer

Take 1.5 grams of Sanqi powder twice a day for 20 consecutive days to treat 78 patients, with a healing rate of 78.9%. Sanqi can promote local blood circulation in ulcers, eliminate inflammation in ulcers and surrounding tissues, promote the regeneration of gastric and duodenal mucosa, and accelerate repair. It also has a rapid analgesic effect and can prevent ulcer recurrence.

5. Treatment of acute necrotizing segmental enteritis

Grind Sanqi into fine powder, take 3 parts each time, 3 times a day, and take it with hot water. A total of 8 patients were treated, and 7 of them were cured. Generally, abdominal pain was relieved 2 days after taking the medication, intestinal peristalsis recovered 4-5 days later, intestinal obstruction was relieved around 7 days, and complete recovery was achieved in about 10 days. The medication should be continued for 15 days to consolidate the therapeutic effect.

6. Acute jaundice-type proctitis

Sanqi has the functions of promoting bile secretion, reducing jaundice, lowering enzyme levels, increasing albumin levels, and reducing total bilirubin levels. It can alleviate pathological damage to the liver and has a protective effect on the liver. It works better when combined with Yinchin Artemisia Decoction. There are also reports that Sanqi has a certain therapeutic effect on chronic hepatitis B.

7. Treatment of eye bleeding

Apply 1% Sanqi solution to the eyes, 2-6 times a day. Alternatively, use 0.5% Dicaine eye drops first, then add a small amount of 2% Procaine to 1% Sanqi solution and inject it into the conjunctiva. The dosage is 0.1-0.3 milliliters each time, once a day. 12 patients with anterior chamber bleeding after trauma or intraocular surgery were observed.

(1) Patients with bleeding (anterior chamber bleeding below 3 millimeters) had their blood absorbed within 1-2 days.

(2) Patients with bleeding (anterior chamber bleeding between 3 millimeters and not exceeding the middle line of the pupil) had their blood absorbed within 3-4 days.

(3) Patients with bleeding (anterior chamber bleeding exceeding the middle line of the pupil and filling up the anterior chamber) usually had their blood absorbed around the 6th day. The most severe cases of anterior chamber bleeding were all absorbed within 3-6 days. The use of the above solution, whether as eye drops or conjunctival injection, had no adverse reactions.
