The oak tree is a common tall tree species widely used in park and residential area greening. Besides its high ornamental value, the bark and leaves of the oak tree also have medicinal properties and good medicinal effects.


【Differences between Oak and Beech Trees】

The leaves of the oak tree have obvious serrations and feel rough to the touch, with the color turning red in autumn; the leaves of the beech tree do not have serrations or have less noticeable ones and feel smooth to the touch, with the color not changing in autumn.

The bark of the oak tree is grayish-white, while the bark of the beech tree is dark gray. Although the leaves of the two trees are similar, the oak tree has thicker bark compared to the beech tree.

In some areas, the beech tree produces smooth small fruits, while the oak tree does not.

【Uses of Oak Leaves】

Oak leaves have the effects of clearing heat and toxins, and cooling the blood. They are mainly used to treat ulcerations, swelling and pain, and abnormal bleeding during menstruation.

They can also be used to treat eczema or pustular sores. If these symptoms occur, severe cases can be treated with this Chinese medicine. Fresh leaves can be directly crushed and applied topically. They can also be soaked in water for washing. However, during the treatment, avoid eating fishy foods to prevent worsening of clinical symptoms.

【Medicinal Applications of Oak Leaves】

Prescription name: "Ju Ye San"

Composition: 3 liang of oak leaves, 1 liang of licorice (slightly roasted and crushed), 2 and a half liang of Ophiopogon japonicus (core removed and roasted), 1 liang of dried ginger (fried and crushed).

Indications: Abnormal bleeding in women, with colors ranging from red to white.

Usage: Take 4 qian (about 12 grams) per dose, boil with 1 tea cup of water and 3 jujubes until reduced to 6 minutes, remove impurities, and take warm. The timing of administration is not restricted.
