【Identification of Characteristics】
The stem is cylindrical, reddish-brown, slightly swollen at the nodes and covered with soft hairs. The cross-section is hollow. The leaves are alternate, wrinkled, and elliptical when flattened, measuring 1.5-3cm in length and 1-2cm in width, with obtuse or slightly pointed tips and wedge-shaped bases.
The leaves are entire, with red marginal hairs, green on the upper surface, often with a zigzag red blush, and green with purple-red on the lower surface, both surfaces covered with sparse brown hairs.
The leaf stalks are short or nearly absent. The stipules are tubular and membranous, with herbaceous auricles at the base. The inflorescence is head-like, terminal or axillary.
The corolla is 5-lobed, and there are 8 stamens. The fruit is ovoid, with 3 ridges and black in color. It has a slight scent and a slightly bitter and astringent taste.
【Medicinal Formulas】
1. For dysentery: Take 2 liang of Shimancao, decoct in water and take twice daily.
2. For hematuria and cystitis: Take 1 liang of fresh Taiyangcao, decoct in water and take. If the bleeding stops but there is still pain during urination, add 1.5 fen of Baishefen, decoct in water and take.
3. For ulcers and leprosy: Take 1 jin of Shimancao, 5 liang of Jiuliming, 5 liang of Pashanhu, and 5 liang of Eucalyptus leaves. Decoct in water to make a paste, add 2 qian of MeiPian and mix well. Apply to the affected area once a day.
4. For bruises and swelling from injuries: Smash Shimancao, fry with alcohol, and apply externally.
5. For rotten sores: Take appropriate amounts of Shimancao, Pashanhu, and Jiuliming, decoct in water, and wash the affected area.
