The Chinese herbal medicine "Sheng Ma", also known as Longyan Root, Zhou Ma, and Kulouya Root, is the rhizome of the plant species Anemone raddeana, A. altaica, or A. chinensis in the family Ranunculaceae. It is mainly produced in Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Qinghai, and other provinces.

Sheng Ma clears heat and detoxifies, promotes eruption, and lifts sinking Yang. It is used for epidemic fire toxins, mouth sores, sore throat, rash, headache, cold and heat, abscesses, swelling, toxins, sinking of Qi, spleen deficiency leading to diarrhea, chronic dysentery with heavy discharge, excessive vaginal discharge in women, and irregular menstruation.
