Dried Yanhegan is a perennial herb. The main root is conical, fleshy, and grayish-yellow. The stem is single or clustered, inclined, and both stem and leaves are covered with white hairs.
The basal leaves have longer petioles, the leaf blades are scattered around, powdery green, and pinnate compound leaves with 2 pinnate divisions; the small leaflets are divided into 3 to 5 pieces, with blunt round or slightly pointed or 3-lobed tips. The inflorescence is terminal, with long peduncles; the corolla is yellow and hairless. The capsule is linear and hairy.
