Purple oil wood leaves are the young leaves of the evergreen tree, aromatic wood, which belongs to the family Anacardiaceae. Because purple oil wood leaves look very similar to the Chinese toon tree, they are also called false toon or purple leaves.

The young leaves of purple oil wood have soft gray-yellow hairs. The leaf axis has narrow wings and grooves on the upper side. The pinnate compound leaves are alternate, and the leaflets are leathery, oblong or obovate-oblong, and relatively small.

The base is slightly asymmetric, broad-wedge-shaped, entire, slightly curled upwards, and both sides have extremely fine soft hairs on the midrib, with a slight gloss on the upper side.
