Effects of Xueshanyizhihao
Functions: Anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, dispelling wind and eliminating dampness
Applications: (1) Treatment of bruises, rheumatic bone pain, toothache
Take 0.25 grams of xueshanyizhihao (about the size of a grain of rice) orally.
(2) Treatment of bruises, snake bites, insect bites
Dosage: Internal use: grind into powder, take 0.03-0.06 grams. External use: apply an appropriate amount soaked in wine.
Take five qian (about 15 grams) of xueshanyizhihao and soak it in one jin (about 500 grams) of wine. After soaking for ten days, apply it externally (do not ingest).
Preparation method of Xueshanyizhihao
Take a branch of xueshanyizhihao and soak it in cold water. Change the water 2-3 times a day and soak it until there is no spicy taste. Take it out, boil it together with licorice and black beans, and simmer until there is no white core inside. Take it out and dry it.

Characteristics of Xueshanyizhihao
1. Identification of characteristics
The rhizome is conical or cylindrical, 4-9 cm long and 0.5-3 cm in diameter. The surface is dark brown to brownish-brown, with deep wrinkles and a few root marks.
The texture is hard and difficult to break. The cross section is milky white or light brown, slightly powdery, with scattered brown dots.
2. Microscopic identification, cross section of the root
The secondary cortex consists of 3-4 rows of brown cells; there are 6-7 rows of cortex cells, with many stone cells in between; the inner cortex consists of 1 row of elongated cells.
The compound external phloem bundles form several concentric circles, forming a circular shape, and the xylem vessels in the wood are arranged in a single radial or V-shaped pattern. There is a medulla in the center.
3. Powder characteristics
Xueshanyizhihao
(1) Stone cells are long, oval, or diamond-shaped, 38-160μm long and 25-60μm in diameter, with varying thickness of the walls, dense pits and grooves, and most of the pits are not obvious.
(2) Starch grains are single, elongated, rectangular, or oval, with a length of 4-25μm, and the hilum is mostly not obvious, with a few visible, forming a cross shape or horseshoe shape.
Precautions for using Xueshanyizhihao
⒈Xueshanyizhihao is highly toxic and must be processed and dosed strictly before oral administration. It should not be taken internally without processing.
⒉It is not suitable for pregnant women, the elderly, children, and patients with heart disease or ulcer.
⒊During medication, avoid eating raw and cold food, legumes, beef, and mutton.
⒋Oral administration of alcohol-based preparations is prohibited.
⒌Symptoms of poisoning mainly include intense excitement of the vagus nerve, salivation, vomiting, abdominal pain, arrhythmia, hypotension, shock, difficulty breathing, seizures, and coma, which can lead to circulatory and respiratory failure and death.
