【Pharmacological Effects】

Modern clinical studies in medicine have found that Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain has a warm nature, bitter and pungent taste, and is highly toxic. It can dispel wind and dampness, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. It is used to treat rheumatism, bruises, swelling, and toothache with significant efficacy.

Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain is mostly used externally and should be used with caution when taken orally. It is recommended to take under the guidance or supervision of a physician. The general dosage for oral administration is once a day, with a dosage of 25-50mg and a maximum dosage of 70mg.

Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain was officially included in the "Yunnan Province Drug Standards" in 1974 and the "Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China" in 1977.

Due to its high toxicity and the dosage for treatment being close to the toxic dosage, it has been listed as a nationally controlled drug. The alkaloids A, B, C, and D in Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain all have analgesic effects. The total alkaloids of Ferula sinkiangensis have a stronger analgesic effect.

3-Acetylneoline is a non-addictive analgesic and has a significant inhibitory effect on inflammatory swelling and granulation tissue hyperplasia.

The total alkaloids of Ferula sinkiangensis have a strong local anesthetic effect. Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain has a similar effect to digitalis on frog hearts, and the resulting heart dysfunction can be counteracted by atropine.

Alkaloids A and B of Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain have a similar effect to aconitine on the heart. Wutou from Xuanwei has anti-tumor effects. Quasigrandisine and ougrandisine have anti-fertility activity. Ferula sinkiangensis can cause arrhythmia and decrease blood pressure.

The salts of alkaloids A, B, C, and D of Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain have analgesic effects on mice. Some people have used alkaloid A of Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain in hot plate experiments, and its analgesic index is only 1/11 of morphine, indicating that its analgesic efficacy is not ideal.

Frog Heart

Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain has a similar effect to digitalis on frog hearts, and the resulting heart dysfunction can be stopped by atropine and quinine. Symptoms of parasympathetic nerve excitement can be observed when poisoned.

Ferula sinkiangensis is highly toxic to mice. When administered through 100% decoction, the lethal dose is equivalent to 0.08-0.3g of raw herb per 10g of body weight.

Mice cannot distinguish between 20% Ferula sinkiangensis bait and normal food, so it can be used for rodent control.

Injection of alkaloid A of Artemisia annua on the Snow Mountain at a dose of 100mg/kg subcutaneously can increase the pain threshold of mice by 47%. Its analgesic index (LD50/minimum analgesic dose) is 1/11 of morphine; the LD50 for subcutaneous injection in mice is 754mg/kg.

【Precautions】

1. It is highly toxic and should be processed and the dosage strictly controlled before oral administration. It is not suitable for oral administration without processing.

2. Pregnant women, the elderly, children, and patients with heart disease or ulcers should not take it.

3. Avoid eating raw and cold food, beans, beef, and mutton during the medication.

4. Alcohol extract is prohibited for oral administration.

5. The main symptoms of poisoning include strong excitement of the vagus nerve, drooling, vomiting, abdominal pain, arrhythmia, decreased blood pressure, shock, difficulty breathing, or convulsions and coma, which can lead to death due to circulatory and respiratory failure.
