  1. Stem

  The stem usually grows in clusters, with a knee-like upright shape, 10-30 cm high. In shady and moist habitats, the lower part of the stem often grows prostrate, with roots growing on the nodes. The upper part is twisted and ascends, reaching up to 60 cm in length, with single or multiple branches, densely covered with 1-1.5 mm long multicellular hairs.

  2. Leaves

  Leaves are opposite, with the upper 2 pairs near the stem tip closely arranged in a whorl, often 1-2 times larger than the lower leaves. Leaf blades are ovate to ovate-elliptic, occasionally lanceolate, 1.5-8 cm long, 8-40 mm wide; the apex is sharp or slightly dull with an abrupt tip, the base is wide and wedge-shaped, dark green on the upper surface and lighter on the lower surface, with both surfaces covered with rough hairs up to 1 mm long.

  Flowers are terminal, nearly head-like, and usually have multiple flowers. The flower stalks are 1-7 mm long, covered with soft hairs. The calyx is 6-9 mm long, with lobes nearly reaching the base, lanceolate in shape with a gradually pointed apex and covered with soft hairs on the back; the corolla is yellow, 10-13 mm long, with the fused base part about 3 mm long, lobes inverted ovate or oblong, 4-6 mm wide, with a sharp or rounded apex and transparent glandular spots.
