Managing Wind-Cold Type Headache: Clinical Presentation and Traditional Remedies

Clinical Presentation of Wind-Cold Type Headache:


     The headache extends to the neck and back, with aversion to wind and cold. The pain worsens with exposure to wind and the person often prefers to wrap their head. The headache is episodic in nature. The tongue is pale red with a thin white coating and the veins are floating.

 



 [Cong Chi Porridge]  
  Ingredients: 10g of white part of scallion, 10g of light soybeans, 50-100g of polished rice.
Preparation: Cook the polished rice to make porridge. Add the white part of scallion and light soybeans to the porridge, and boil for a few more minutes.
Benefits: Expels wind and disperses cold.
Usage: Take 2-3 times a day, continuously for 3-5 days.
 
 [Chuan Xiong and Bai Zhi Stewed Fish Head]  
  Ingredients: 1 fish head (such as grass carp), 3-9g of Chuan Xiong, 6-9g of Bai Zhi.
Preparation: Wrap Chuan Xiong and Bai Zhi in gauze and cook them with the fish head in a soup. Simmer over low heat until the fish head is fully cooked, then season to taste.
Benefits: Expels wind and disperses cold.
Usage: Drink the soup and eat the fish head.
